Location is wonderful, Surroundings divine Trip is adventurous, Hospitality sublime Whether you come to Mitakesan to get close to nature, or God, this place is a great place for a stay. Ideally located right next to the ascent for shrine and all nearby hiking. Ms Akemi and family took great care of us. The food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared for vegetarians. Lodging amenities were nice and in line with traditional ryokan style. Onsen after a long day of hiking melts the pain away. They also arranged for an early morning ritual at shrine for us. The waterfall ceremony was not available though. Waterfalls themselves are easily accessible with a short but strenuous hike. We flew into HND, and managed to do the Shinjuku bus/JR train/shuttle bus/cablecar journey to reach this place without any issues. So don’t be intimidated by the number of transfers. Having less luggage will definitely help. Use hyperdia site to plan travel (although that site doesn’t show the bus to shinjuku option - we used it to save one transfer). The place a bit of a hike from Mt Mitakesan train station, so having backpacks only would work best. The pathway is not friendly for rolling luggage.

The room was so spacious, everything is immaculate and the food is divine. The hot tub was fabulous as well as the delightful hostess - she is a real sweetheart. Well worth the effort to get there from Tokyo, but very doable. Perfect place to relax or stretch your legs and go hiking.

we arrived at this Inn after a long walk and where very warmly welcomed by the lady who runs the Ryokan. And she speaks good english (we were a little concerned about that since we dont speak japanese) The Room was very big and the view great!! We loved our heatable Table in the room. The breakfast and dinner are all selfmade and the owner is happy to explain you everything whats on the table and how its made. For us it was a very warm and caring stay. Übrigens sind anscheinend viele Deutsche als Gäste da und es gibt einen sehr guten Deutsch/japanisch/englischen "Fingertipp-Kommunikationsbogen" der im Esszimmer liegt. (ja der wurde auf deutsch als fingertippkommunikationsbogen übersetzt und ich liebe dieses wort seitdem :)

Wow. What a great and valuable experience. I was greeted and said goodbye so warmly that it was really hard for me to leave at all. The whole stay was just perfect. The room with a fantastic view, the whole house spotlessly clean, the food, which was also food for my soul, so lovingly prepared. The hikes to the waterfalls and to the mountains were beautiful. All in all: harmony, happiness, peace, tranquility. I am so looking forward to coming back.
