Maes manor is a beautiful building set in a magnificent ground. My daughter had her wedding there. I stayed in 2 rooms over 2 nights. 1 was a family room, the other was an executive double room with a four poster frame. Both these rooms although spacious were tired looking, the walls needed repainting in both rooms, skirtings needed repainting and cleaning. The furniture was dated and old. The bathrooms need retiling the bath in the family room has had a bad job of waterproofing around it. These rooms could be spectacular if just a bit more care and maintenance was carried out. The prices charged warrant these updates. The wedding room looked pretty and well presented, and the tables looked fab.The food was served, vegatable soup soup was ok albeit lumpy, but children’s starters were largely left, fruit berries is not a choice that most kids like. The main course was a breast of chicken, overcooked cabbage a small carrot and cold mixed of peas and beans, very bland looking and tasting, one of the guests was a chef and didn’t touch his! As did most of the guests left there’s. Luckily my son who hadn’t eaten for a week, and who will eat anything demolished most of people’s left overs. The children’s sweet was to lumps of hard cake and a chocolate looking thing which none of the kids ate! They would have been better off with the adult profiteroles! The menu was a big let down, I could have done better and my cooking isn’t great! The evening do was ok, the room looked good the DJ was distant and had no emotion, if you see an empty dance floor put music on that you know will get people dancing, she done this once, then put un-danceable music on! So floor was cleared, I almost felt she wanted an easy night! The evening buffet was served and cleared with lightening speed, I didn’t even know that wedding cake was on the bar cut up! The last dance started to play for bride and groom without checking that they were in the room, they came running in after a guest went to get them by this time the dance was nearly over! Why would you do that? The wedding co-ordinator was fab and attentive but was gone by this time. The blonde lady behind the reception desk found it hard to crack a smile but the younger girl was fab and helpful. On the whole the venue is good but attention to detail, cosmetically and personal details/touches has got lost along the way, but despite this it was an enjoyable day. I’ve tried to write this review with honesty so that improvements can be made.
