I have stayed in other elite hotels in much more expensive markets and have have paid far less. Considering the rate, I was expecting best in class hospitality, and cleanliness where you could practically eat off the floor. Kempinski only provided a great lobby and restaurant experience. They also provided cribs for our kids which were very convenient. My room on the other hand was in serious need of repair.
The shower door did not close which led to water leaking on the floor, causing my 1 year old to slip and fall. The tile grout was mildewed. The floor was dusty with hair that wasn't ours. The room had a stale stuffy smell. The tissue box was tattered, lamp shade was stained, art frame glass was moldy, and the desk drawer handles were dusty. The balcony floor was stained. Generally, the staff (room service and housekeeping) were unenthusiastic when we called for support, like they were bored, which is uncharacteristic of a high end hotel.
The biggest low point were the curtains - they were CAKED in dust. My kids would hide and play in the curtains and come out covered in white powdery dust. The windows also were stained with dust. This is a serious health hazard. This made for a very disappointing experience because I had heard of Kempinski for years and was willing to pay the most I have ever spent for an unforgettable hotel stay, and my room was unkempt. I won't recommend Kempinski to others for lodging.
