The hotel was fine, but I agree with the previous reviewer that there is an extractor fan on all the time which is a bit annoying. I quite like Almere itself. It's modern but not depressing like so many newly built areas in Britain. The main problem is the cost of going to and from Amsterdam each day on the train. I was told that you can buy a ticket for 3 days on the train. You can't buy one at Almere Centrum station. You can't buy one at the ticket machines at Amsterdam Centraal station. Or the information kiosks. There is supposed to be a special kiosk at Centraal but I didn't manage to find it. Another thing is that the coffee often tastes horrible. I didn't have coffee at this hotel but at several places in the Netherlands I did. They don't seem to use fresh milk. I don't know if it's UHT or sterilised or maybe some kind of coffee creamer. If you go to Dunkin Donuts though you can choose fresh milk. There is one in Almere and a few in Amsterdam. Or buy a half litre in a supermarket and take it with you if you go to a cafe.

We did not like this hotel. Terrible. For a short break, we wanted to explore the newest big city in The Netherlands (and Almere is different – recommended for an alternative city trip). Organisation and staff were not up to the required level, and finally the hotel is not that cheap. Many small points went wrong in our opinion. The hotel sent an email to check-in on line and to avoid waiting at reception. We did a longish procedure at home with scanning of ID card, face recognition and yes: we got a screen with all ID data telling that everything was OK to just pick up the key. Arriving at the hotel, the two receptionists were busy on the telephone, and when finishing one gave priority to a conversation with a colleague without saying anything. And then the whole check in went as before because the data “did not come through”. As if this was our mistake ….. In the e mail confirmation the hotel mentioned a welcome drink. Nobody informed us, we had to ask for it. Apparently it is only automatic if you install the app. Most of all, our concern was the dirtiness of the room, and the whole hotel did not give a fresh image. A pity, because it is a very nice new building from the outside. At departure the receptionist said we should have told that upon arrival to remedy it. Well, where would the cleaning and refurbishment team have started? The carpet on the public stairs up one half level is worn, in the corridor seemed to be a water (or other liquid) leak. A dirt pot was put in the corridor. Room service plates from the previous day were in front of several rooms. At our room, the plate with food and drink remaining of the previous guests remained before the door until we left the next day (!). Inside the room, the smell was unfresh. A long black hair (could not be ours) was in the sink. The carpet was not fresh. Apparently the normal fridge was broken in our room. They had put a second one on the ground, they had not made the effort to replace it. The “new” fridge was put just before one of the seats; it became almost unusable because of the position of the replacement fridge. The window/door to the terrace was not cleaned for a loooooong time. On the terrace itself were many (!) bird droppings, including on the chair we had to sit on ……. We even did not put one foot on the dirt ground of the terrace. And this could continue ………… Never again, that is for sure.

Stay away from this hotel and run as far as possible away is my advice. They took my money after over 9weeks! I booked this hotel on the 25th of May for 23-26 of June which at the time was 1month away. I cancelled immediately after booking and it was free cancellation, I cancelled because I found another hotel closer the family I was visiting. All the booking were made of booking.com on the same day. Cancellation was in fact within 10min. Anyway on the 5th August, I saw €380 deducted from my account from Bastion Hotel that was already cancelled. €380 after almost 10weeks! That is fraud! Booking.com said they cannot do anything and that property process payment, property said it say non refundable on booking which was a lie, I asked how come they are taking money after 10week, the hotel did not answer any of my emails. It is either they have employed someone that specialises in fraudulent transaction or they are just thief. Just run away from this hotel. THE CANCELLATION SAYS FREE CANCELLATION ON THE DAY AND IT WAS 4 WEEKS AWAY. I BOOKED ANOTHER HOTEL ON SAME 25TH OF MAY APPROX 10MIN AFTER THE BOOKING WAS CANCELLED ON SAME BOOKING.COM. JUST SUDDENLY ON THE 5TH OF AUGUST WHICH IS 71 DAYS AFTER, I SAW €380 TAKEN OUT OF MY ACCOUNT FROM BASTION HOTEL, I CONTACTED MY BANK AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE ACCESS BECAUSE I PUT MY BANK DETAILS FOR BOOKING BUT THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN MONEY SINCE IT WAS CANCELLED. I CONTACTED BOOKING.COM AND WAS REDIRECTED TO THE HOTEL. THE HOTEL DID NOT RESPOND TO EMAIL NOR ANSWER MY CALLS AND BOOKING.COM SAID THEY REQUESTED A WAIVE BUT THE PROPERTY SAID NO. I ASKED WHY AFTER 71 DAYS BUT NO RESPONSE. PLS RUN 🏃‍♂️ AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. ONCE THEY HAVE ACCESS TO UR ACCOUNT THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY WITHOUT NOTICE. PLEASE CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS TO SEE IF THEY ARE NOT TAKING UR MONEY. THEY WAITED 71 DAYS! RUN
