I like to have hot water kettle in room whick was missing

Beautiful hotel.. need an update in decoration and a better quality bedding Service is ok overall

This once excellent hotel needs a full revamp. Money needs spending on both the hotel and golf course, it's run down and under-staffed. Noisy large groups at breakfast, dishes left on table for ages and worst of all the servicing of the rooms. Basic things like no sheet change in 5 nights, floor nor balcony swept not even once. Worst of all was the beds not being made, the maid simply pulled the duvet over the bed and I guess threw the pillows from somewhere across the room. We complained to reception but things continued in exactly the same manner, though on the last night (Sunday) the bed was at least straightened.

I’m not sure how this hotel has managed to be accredited as a 5 star hotel? It may well have been of a 5 star standard a few decades ago! The hotel is very tired and run down. It’s in desperate need of redevelopment. Towels on internal stairs to soak up the rain leaking through closed windows, paint flaking on balconies, tired furniture, the activities around the walking /jogging track poorly maintained, generally looking run down. We decided to eat in the Grill restaurant. The food and service were good. During the meal there was a diner who was on his phone having conversations with another person with his phone on loud speaker, playing music & watching clips. All on loud! In any restaurant this kind of behaviour from a fellow diner would be classed as rude and inconsiderate. We asked a member of the waiting staff if they would kindly ask the gentleman to refrain from using his phone in the restaurant in this way. We were told that the staff member could not tell him to stop as he was the owner of the hotel! From the response this kind of complaint from a guest wasn’t unusual and had obviously happened before. We wouldn’t recommend this hotel or return there.

Very nearly cancelled our tee time on the Henry Cotton course due to the reviews, but we carried on and glad we did. It’s a classic old school course as you’d expect. Greens were excellent. Really good test. Lovely Clubhouse. Would recommend

4 nights with some golf. The hotel is impressive. We upgraged to a juinor suite for a "discounted rate" for an extra £585 for the 4 nights! This wasnt great value once we saw the room. The golf was great as were the staff. We also enjoyed the food. It did seem the hotel was under staffed at times, however this didnt deter from our stay. The pool was good too. The hotel badly needs upgraded, paint is flaking off in a lot of areas, loose door handles etc. The general decor is old fashioned and worn. Our biggest issues were, dinner starts at 7.30 pm meaning not eating before 8.00 pm, which is too late for us. Our second issue was this is the 1st 4 - 5 star hotel we have stayed in that didnt replace water in the room (this was a seperate fee of 5 euro each) This hotel has so much potential to recapture its golden years, but investment is needed.
