アタバスカ ロッジ モーテル(Athabasca Lodge Motel)

I had to call the number on the door to get a staff member to let me in so upon check-in. Not a big deal for me though. The lady at the desk was super friendly. We asked to rent a cot, since we’re a family of 6, but the only available option they had was an old camping camo cot. My husband slept on it and as sore and in pain the entire next day. The kitchen floors were sticky, the carpet was filthy and crunchy, there were pee splatters on the back of the bathroom door, the counters had marks and water spots on them (clearly they weren’t wiped down properly before we got there.) the bedding was definitely not washed before our stay as well. The TV had these annoying ads that kept popping up during our movie. There were only 2 towels available and when I called the front desk to get more, nobody answered. All that being said, I feel bad writing this review, only bwcause the lady who helped us was quite friendly (I suspect she was the owner?). But the level of cleanliness (or lack thereof) needs to be addressed. My in-laws live in Athabasca, so we come here often. I will never book back in here again. This was hands down the filthiest motel I’ve ever stayed in.

Good place to stop and access the town. It is a short 5 min drive to the river and park.

Breakfast was advertised but bread and a toaster with coffee is not much of a breakfast. The one thing I was not impressed was the cord for the bedside light was connected to the plug with marrettes - electricians will know what I am talking about. Not a good thing.

For checking-in in the middle of the night, I was overly impressed with the friendliness and service. Even though my room was only a few doors down, I was walked to it and shown where it was, which was very thoughtful. I greatly appreciated it as I was very overtired and it was late at night. I’ve stayed here before. The kitchenette and full-size fridge are terrific. The motel is older, but kept very tidy and everything works. Lots of parking. Great rates.

Kind and friendly staff.

The initial impression was casual as there was no one at the desk till after a phone call was made, even tho they have cameras. When I told the front desk my credit card number I felt like the person near by was eavesdropping. Turns out they worked there. The room it self smelled like stale alcohol and bathroom fan periodically worked. To much light came thru from outside lightning. Overall not a great experience. And definitely not for the same price you pay in a nice hotel in similar oilpatch towns in Alberta and I’ve been to most of them.

Found a fingernail clipping on the bathroom vanity. There is also a notice that if you leave any dirty dishes you MUST leave a $10 tip. I would hope that with Covid they are washing all dishes between guests anyway but maybe not! Only dealt with one gentleman at the front counter, he was very friendly.
