Mario's International Spa, Hotel & Restaurant

I came to Mario’s to decompress after a difficult visit with family. I liked that they had both spa and restaurant on site, plus whirlpool tubs in each bedroom, so I could get away from it all all in one place. Mario’s did not disappoint. I had a massage, soaked in their Grotto, got room service from their Cabin restaurant. I have not had such GREAT service from a hotel staff in my life. They really care and are flexible and helpful. Lisa the desk manager helped me with a GrubHub delivery snafu as she was heading off shift at 10pm Sunday night. The staff goes above and beyond! Be aware, though, that the building dates from 1850. Ot offers some classic amenities you may appreciate as I did, like an actual room key instead of a key card. And they do have AC, cable and good wifi. Their on-site restaurant is quite good. But there is no elevator and you may expect to have to climb stairs. There was no fridge or microwave in my room. The rooms are decorated in a semi-Victorian style. If all this is fine with you, you will love it here, as I did. Not a cookie-cutter modern chain hotel, but something older and unique. Don’t pass it up if you appreciate historical buildings and great service.

Terrible dining experience We have been to the Cabin restaurant on several occasions, but recently they changed their entire kitchen staff. What a shame, since they must have hired inexperienced chef and kitchen staff. Everything was wrong with the food, taste, quality and horrible service. Never going back!

I went with a friend last Sunday for a pedicure and massage, which were both done by the same woman. This was my experience: 1) The massage was the worst I've ever had. The amount of pressure she used was excessive and caused me A LOT of pain, and I told her up front that my upper back was already hurting. When I asked her to back off on the pressure, she told me she was just "releasing toxins" and not to hold my breath. She continued the painful pressure and I told her numerous times that the pain was too much. She didn't seem to care. The message was only 30 minutes so by the time I was about ready to cry, it was over. I complained to the lady at the front desk and she told me she'd have to "review my paperwork" and talk to the message therapist. Of course I never heard back. She told me any refund would have to come out of the therapist's pocket (apparently they're independent contractors?). 2) The woman barely said 2 words to me during my pedicure, but my friend's nail technician talked non-stop to both of us. My lady just seemed annoyed to be working that day. When I had to go back up and change out of my robe to put pants on before the polish (my pants wouldn't go up far enough for the pedicure), she told me not to "dilly dally" because she had another client next "waiting." We were totally running on time so I'm not sure why she felt the need to rush me. I wish I had the massage therapist's name so I could tell you to avoid her like the plague. Blond lady with glasses. Rudest person I have dealt with in a long time. 3) The bathroom was NOT clean and neither were the floors. Things seemed dirty and outdated. The whole experience was poor and overpriced for what I got. I shouldn't have tipped my lady at all, but the pedicure itself was ok, and it's the holidays. And I'm a nice person. Looking back, I'm kicking myself for not being more upfront with my experience, but we were in a hurry checking out. I have been there many times in the past but will NOT be going back. Service: 1/5

Terrible experience, I received a gift card for Mother’s Day for Mario’s. I recently booked my gift card package. Unfortunately my car would not start on the morning of my appointment. I called to make them aware of my unfortunate situation and to see if I was able to reschedule for the near future. She told me that tech was already there and more than like I would lose my gift card spa package. She said they require 48hr notice. I told her this was a situation out of my control. She said she would call corporate and see what could be done. I never heard back so I called to follow up. I just found out that they zeroed out my entire gift card. So now I loose my entire gift card and experience. This situation was handled poorly!

The food was fabulous, presentation and taste couldn't have been better! I ate asparagus, which I do not normally eat, it was great and the lamb chops were to die for! Everyone is polite and the decor was splendid to view as you walked from one room to the next. The room was spacious and the whirlpool was very nice; however the walls were thin, I could hear my neighbors conversation and music. The other disappointment is I had $20 missing from my purse after receiving massage and facial services, plus unable to experience the sauna because it was full. The owner was apologetic about my loss, but she made sure to correct an error by a clerk, which resulted in adding $25 to my bill. So, if I return, I will make sure to not take any cash with me!
