Kumbukgaha Villa

The hotel is well off the road, in a very rural setting. Apart from the friendly dogs, we saw peacocks, colour ful lizards and lots of birds. The villas are self contained, spacious wit a large comfortable bed and an outdoor bathroom. The meals were excellent and the staff very helpful and keen to please. We could see the villas from the summit of Sigiriya and it was a good place from which to explore the old capitals.

Spent three nights here whilst touring the cultural triangle. Simple but very comfortable room in a beautiful setting. Quirky outside ‘bathroom’, poor water pressure but an interesting experience and fun. The staff are a real asset. Friendly and really helpful. Dinning here, either for breakfast, or dinner, with peacocks for company, is a real joy. The only slight draw back to the location is the quality of the access - a long-ish drive over a rough surfaced single track but it gives more time to enjoy the wonderful bird life en route.

Overall we enjoyed our 3 night stay here. The hotel is stunning in its open plan reception and dining area with antique furnishings. The room was spacious and comfortable with its view over the paddy fields. We liked the outdoor bathroom and showering under the stars, although outdoors means visits from animals such as frogs and squirrels, not that they bothered us much. Also liked the peaceful location with nothing to hear but the sounds of the birds. The staff were friendly and helpful and work very hard to make sure guests have a good experience. The food on the whole was good, but make sure you ask for a greater level of spiciness for the local dishes, if that is your preference. Everything was fresh and nicely presented. There are a couple of areas that need to be improved for a hotel of this standard and price. The wifi only worked in the restaurant, not in the rooms and even then it was very poor. The staff said this was a network issue, but regardless it needs to be addressed. The water pressure in our room was very weak which made showering a long process. Lastly, although the staff spent considerable time sweeping around the pool and removing leaves, the tiles within the pool itself did not appear to have been cleaned for a long time.

Nice and quiet place to relax. Very friendly staff, spacious room, however extremely disappointed with food. Stayed there for three nights and only dined once. With amazing Sri Lankan cuisine, full of various spices of different kind, the chef could have made more effort. A plain omelette for breakfast with no sauces. Ordered a fruit salad for dessert at a dinner, and received literary a half of a banana and a pineapple ring.

A hidden gem in the Sigiriya region, a warm welcome greats you to this lovely boutique hotel in a jungle setting. The rooms are beautifully designed and the staff could not be more helpful. Lovely antique pieces gives a real luxurious Sri Lankan feel. A perfect base to explore the cultural triangle. Would throughly recommend.

My husband and I together with my sister stayed 2 nights at lovely Kumbukgaha . We had visited the Cultural Triangle on previous visits and wanted to sample a place like this within reach of the mountain site of Ritigala. Kumbukgaha was a lovely hideaway with superb staff who were so kind and really tried to make our stay special. Delicious food, lovely comfortable rooms, we enjoyed interracting with other guests at the dining room.The villa was seemingly in the middle of nowhere but the serenity and surroundings were very peaceful. My daughter and I had a lovely two night stay here. The staff are so nice and very helpful, rooms are very spacious, clean and have a lovely view. Food was very good too. Thank you for a lovely stay, we hope to be back one day!

We stayed here for 3 nights as a family of five with three teenagers while touring the Cultural Triangle. A little bit off the beaten track but once there, you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle with lots of wildlife to watch and complete peace and quiet. Our rooms were by the pool and very nicely styled with outdoor bathrooms and verandas with seating. The pool is quite small and watch for a few loose tiles but perfect for cooling off after climbing Lion Rock or visiting the temples. Dinner and breakfast served in the open air main villa - limited selection but good quality. Staff very friendly and make you feel very welcome. Overall a very nice place to stay if you don't mind being away from it all.

We visited Kumbukgaha Villa (me, my husband and our young daughters) this July. The hotel is fantastic, very well maintained, with gorgeous surroundings. The staff went out of their way to be as helpful and respectful as they could. Extremely loving and family style manner – I cannot recommend this hotel enough. A real must for a trip.
