This was our return visit to Misibis Bay. Our first trip back in 2013 was a wonderful experience through and through (I have a stellar review posted here) and we were looking forward to this vacation, and we ended up incredibly disappointed. While the resort still looks great if a bit worn down, much of the younger staff, while polite and pleasant, borders on incompetent. For example: Housekeeping cleaned our room. They were done in under 10 minutes. When I checked, there were still stains stuck to the toilet bowl and the wet, dirty bath mats were not replaced. The plates, cups, glasses, and utensils used were not replaced nor washed. Later that evening, they knocked. "Turndown service," said the guy. I opened the door expecting him to come in turn down the beds. He handed me four plates of kakanin... and left. While the restaurant staff was mostly efficient, the food quality was a mixed bag - from an excellent Mac & Cheese to a completely inedible Spaghetti Bolognese. Grilled Shrimps did not seem fresh and were very hard to chew. A fried chicken dish that the menu said was made only of boneless thighs were mostly breasts. The breakfast buffet was okay, but lacked day to day variety. And there were so many unavailable a la carte menu items. You'd expect them to have adequate stocks since it's the NYE long weekend. Their golf cart drivers who take you to your room from reception drive at alarmingly fast speeds. Unlike in other resorts where they're cautious since they're on the same pathways as pedestrians, these guys are constantly speeding such that it seems they want you to just jump out of their way. The front office staff members were mostly polite and gracious, but one was lacking in the personal touch of engaging the guest with light banter. The water activities staff was extremely professional and helpful. They were the sole remnants of the perfect staff we remembered from our previous stay. What makes a resort memorable as a luxury resort is the amount of care guests receive without having to ask for it. In this case, you really feel the change with the current management, which I hear is a different group from when we first visited. So in short, it's still physically a nice resort, but there really needs to be improvements in the training of the staff to improve the customer experience.
