シャトー デ ラ バルー(Château de la Ballue)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Wish we had booked qnother night. The gardens are amazing as is the whole atmosphere. Lovely to have the parking within the gate, our room was spacious, the bathroom had a lovely shower and the breakfast was fantastic to start us on our journey. I would highly recommend. The location was perfect for exploring Mont St. MichelCancale, etc.

Chateau de la Ballue is magical. Madame Mathon was gracious and made us feel very welcome in her beautiful chateau. Our room was stately and overlooked the beautiful gardens. We could walk the gardens on a beautiful November afternoon and dream what it would be like to live in such a grand property. Breakfast was plentiful with many options sure to please everyone. Put this chateau on your list when visiting Brittany - you will feel the magic!

What a lovely, peaceful delightful stay. La Balue is located on a quiet tree lined lane. There are two arched steel doors in the entrance to the chateau. Buzz the intercom and Madame Mathion will open the gates for you to drive in. What is behind the gates is astounding, a beautiful mansion with exquisite gardens. It is quiet and serene. So many personal items to look at, antique paintings, chandeliers…. This is why I love Frances’ countryside, the history and the uniqueness of each chateau we visit. Robes and slippers are provided and there are many books and magazines to read while sipping wine and enjoying a charcuterie plate in one of their elegant lounge areas. (There is no restaurant on site so eat somewhere before you arrive if you are famished). We just loved our visit and hope to be back.

A stunning home shared with visitors. So welcoming and comfortable. Easy to communicate with. Very clean. Beautiful, well kept gardens, even in the rain. Good location. Very hospitable hosts and staff. Excellent breakfast. Would highly recommend this hotel.

The gardens are very special, quite unlike anything I have ever visited before. The host family and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast and how quiet and peaceful it was after our full days of sightseeing nearby in Dinan, Dinard, St. Malo, and Cancale.

We had a wonderful stay on this magnificient property. A true haven of piece and beauty! Breakfast was delicious and served in a room fit for a pricess. We definitely return. Highly reccommend!

After staying in multiple chateaus in 2019 with my husband during my 30th birthday trip around the country, we both agreed our time spent at Chateau de la Ballue was our favorite (a picture I took of the Chateau is even displayed in our home as one of our favorite places!). I hoped to bring my parents one day as I knew they would love it as well; this week I was able to do so and they were blown away! We arrived later in the evening and after the son of the Mathiot-Mathon family kindly assisted us with check-in and taking our bags to the Suite de France, he informed us that as it was late and restaurants may have closed early for the holiday, Monsieur had graciously offered to make us a light dinner despite not regularly offering such. We gratefully accepted and Madame generously served us on the terrace of the impeccable gardens (we passed the bar on the way, which my father wasted no time enjoying!). We spent our time visiting Mont Saint-Michele (a 30min drive from the Chateau), exploring the gardens, relaxing in our suite, and enjoying the pool, for which the Chateau provided towels and sandals as well. Breakfast was also a very generous and delicious bargain. Thank you to the Mathiot-Mathon family for the kindness, hospitality, and another exceptional stay. We escaped a long family visit for a night and had such a relaxing stay at Chateau de la Ballue! The chateau and grounds are beautiful and Marie-France and her sons are hospitable and welcoming. Breakfast was more than generous and everything was local, fresh, and delicious. We took a quick dip in the pool when we arrived (we sadly missed tea but the selection is extensive and cakes looked heavenly) and it was not too cool, just refreshing. I would definitely recommend staying! The only downside is there are no great options for food nearby but thankfully we had an amazing lunch in Cancale before arriving.
