The location is great; the staff is attentive and polite. However, it is very expensive - the evening meal main courses cost over £30, and despite booking B&B we had to pay a supplement for a cooked breakfast - surely that should be included!! The room was rather small and dark and located at the top of the hotel - 2 long corridors and 2 flights of stairs to get to.

Well !... What an absolutely fantastic place to stay. From the moment we set foot inside we were made to feel extremely welcome by Emma on reception who went out of her way to accommodate all our needs. Well done Emma, you truly are an asset to the hotel ! Our room was amazing and absolutely ideal for us to chill out and relax for a few days which is just what we wanted. We really appreciated all the added little touches and nothing was too much trouble at all for the very attentive staff. From breakfast in the morning, tea in the lounge in the afternoon and the restaurant facilities were all second to none and in our view the stay was perfection. Thank you so much to Andrew, the General Manager, and all his staff for making this a most splendid stay and as explained we most certainly didn't want to leave and we will be back.... Wonderful 1 night stay at Montague Arms given to us as an anniversary present. Stayed in the Courtyard room which was huge and tastefully decorated with lots of little extras such as White Company toiletries, a welcome drink, air con. Breakfast was excellent.

Having visited a couple of times in the past and had a lovely experience especially in the Terrace Restaurant we booked for our 60th wedding anniversary. Not impressed! The restaurant food was very mediocre, lacking flare and taste, yet each course was at the top end of the price range. No where near to the quality and standard of previous visits. Although the staff were very friendly they lacked the expertise of service.Simple little things that proper training would have given a more professional encounter. Having taken an order from just the two of us, then when delivering asked who was having what! I observed a waitress handling croissants with her fingers even though the tongs were close by! The accommodation in a courtyard suite was very good, apart from being “cold soaked” and underfloor heating restricted to 17*c. The heated towel rail switching off continuously, engineering fixed the problem but it took to the second evening before a comfortable temperature was reached.

We stayed in a Courtyard room with our two dogs. The room was large, well furnished and had an amazingly comfortable bed. The bathroom was quite luxurious and roomy. We also had a patio at the front and back of our room, each with an outdoor table and chairs so we could catch the sun. In addition the gardens were a picture, even though it was the end of summer the flowers were stunning. The staff were all charming and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. The Hotel is set in a beautiful area of the New Forest with great walks nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our two day break and I'm sure we will return soon.

We had a fabulous weekend. Booked 3 rooms for 3 couples and the hotel was great. Fantastic service from Jared in the restaurant and Paul in the bar who on request made us perfect Lemon Drop Martinis despite not being on the cocktail menu. Would definitely return.

We had a wonderful stay from the moment we entered the hotel. The staff were extremely efficient, informative and friendly. Catered to our needs wonderfully. Our bedroom overlooked the splendid gardens and has retained the character of a grade listed building, whilst having all the modern amenities and fantastic shower room. We had the continental breakfast and it was a splendid affair with a lovely selection of meats, cheese, fruits and pastries. Would definitely stay again if we were in the location and would recommended the Montagu to family and friends. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one.

From the time we checked in everything was perfect. We had a fantastic room very well appointed and was immaculate, which they had very kindly upgraded us to. Plenty of tea etc., and a lovely coffee machine. Beautiful toiletries and everything you needed. If there had been something that you would have required extra I am sure it would not have been a problem. The staff, from the youngest to the more mature members had impeccable customer service skills. The hotel is a gem, from the perfect gardens right the way through to the restaurant and bar areas. This is an old establishment which is steeped in history, and which they are very careful to maintain as a perfect country retreat. Breakfast was everything you could possibly require and more. We ate in the Terrace Restaurant and Monty's Inn and thoroughly enjoyed both meals. We will definitely be returning for another short break. Thank you to all the team.

Montagu Arms is a very well run hotel in the village of Beaulieu (pronounced "bee-lay" by the locals). The original part of the building is 200 years old and the charming interior has been carefully redecorated. Our room was in a building in the beautiful garden behind the hotel that was once a "barn" perhaps? The hotel refers to these rooms as a courtyard suite and they have been beautifully done, excellent furnishing, large bathroom with separate tub and shower. Staff is excellent as are their restaurants where we had both dinner and breakfasts. Our only complaint has nothing to do with the hotel but with transportation (we arrived via train in Brockenhurst). We wanted to visit Exbury Gardens and the taxi had to come from some distance and it cost 24£ to get there. The National Car Museum is closer but then there was no easy transportation no easy walking route to get there so we skipped it.
