The hotel was rated 5 star but by who ? We’d give it 3 at a push the reasons for the 3 star are as follows. When your paying around £400 per night for a luxury hotel, you’d expect premium service and unfortunately this hotel just does not live up to that. You’d expect a lift that can carry more than a few people at a time. We gave up in the end and used the stairs every time we needed to go to our room. The service was just about OK but again when paying a premium tariff you’d expect the staff to be way more attentive than they were. We had to keep on calling over to ask for our coffee in the morning after we’d helped ourselves to the motorway service buffet. With regard to breakfast, in a 5 star hotel you should have had breakfast to order, not a buffet style breakfast which this was. It was like being in an all inclusive in Spain and in actual in fact we’ve had better breakfasts at all inclusives in Spain and much more choice with regard to the cooked food. There was much better choice with room service, which was made to order, so why couldn’t you have this in the restaurant?? Service was generally slow and we were forgotten about on several occasions when ordering some nibbles and had to ask for our order twice. We felt the hotel was trying too hard to be 5 star and couldn’t live up to those expectations for anyone who has stayed in a 5 star hotel before. There was too emphasis on creating a glamorous a**osphere by using everyday household items. For instance at your buffet breakfast, there were two Dualit toasters, which are designed for household use, not commercial. On the first morning I did some toast, and the toaster broke and it was too hot to touch. I nearly burnt my hand and so did the waiting staff who took the toaster away. The hairdryer also blew up. I rang reception to advise them and ask for a new hairdryer and had to leave message on the answerphone as no one answered. I waited 10 minutes and then had to ring reception again. Luckily the phone was answered this time and a hair dryer sent straight up, but if I hadn’t of rung again, I wonder how long I would have had to have waited for someone to listen to my answerphone message. The pool area was a building site which reeked of BENIDORM circa 1982 with the works being carried out all day and at £400 per night, not what you’d expect. The dust on the scaffold was being swept up and going into the pool. We appreciate that building works have to take place but why the works couldn’t have been programmed to be carried out through the winter months is baffling. On the pool subject, we only found during our stay that the hotel was open to outside guests and their children to use all of the facilities and we wouldn’t have wasted our money if we knew that this was a David Lloyd type set up. We also noted that children were playing in the pool unattended and there was no life guard on duty which is an health and safety issue and ff you’re visiting over a weekend
