ル サン ジョルジュ(Le Saint Georges)

The restaurant is very nice. I liked everything: how the reservation was taken, our table, dishes, attitude, atmosphere… until the moment when one of the staff members appeared from nowhere (he was not even serving our table) and asked, if we want dessert or coffee. I replied that we do not want anything. The next moment we received a bill, which we did not ask for. Additionally, we had a machine with the exact sum we spent in the restaurant. I felt we are not welcome in the restaurant anymore and paid without leaving any tips. Of course it was reported to a gentleman, who seemed to be higher in hierarchy. In my opinion, the management must educate the personnel that if the bill is not asked, there is no need to bring it. Then leave a bill and ask how the bill is preferred to be paid: cash or card. I wanted to leave tips, so I could put it on the cashless payment. Since I was not offered such an option, I did not leave any tip to the unfriendly waiter, even though I liked everything. Nonetheless, I give the restaurant the highest mark, since they apologised for the behaviour of their employee.

This hotel was delightful, and the staff was wonderful and helpful (especially the owner). Our room was large, comfortable and well-equipped, with a balcony and beautiful view. Be sure to eat in their restaurant (we recommend the fondue). Everything in that little town is within walking distance and charming. (We loved the double double cream with merengues at the bakery across the street.) The only negatives are the uphill climb from the bus stop to the hotel and the climb up the stairs to the rooms (no elevator). However, people there are friendly and kind, and they graciously helped us with our suitcases, so it wasn't too bad.

Reception friendly OK. “Junior suite” is just a larger room, requiring some renovation: bathroom rather basic, window frames fraying. Restaurant menu ample but mainly pizzas and pasta, could do with some more interesting dishes (nearby restaurants were better).

Amazing hotel right where the action is. We went for the cheese festival, great experience. The only thing to know before you book is tgat the room doesn’t have a/c and the structure has no lift. Service by Benjamin, Vincent and Ana was excellent! Loved Le Saint George’s hotel and Gruyeres.

Came here with a group of fellow students. Food was outstanding. We got fondue for all 21 of us, and desert after. It was incredible. The service was outstanding and the view was to die for. The fondue had a rich creamy taste, and was served with bread, potatoes, and pickled vegetables. The chocolate cake desert was served with the best vanilla ice cream i’ve ever had. Clearly they take advantage of the local dairy source!

I am so happy that I chose the Hotel Le Saint George for my stay in Gruyeres. I was so in need of a break, and when I arrived yesterday I was warmly greeted by Anna, whose customer service is truly outstanding. I arrived early, and she was able to check me in, and showed me my lovely room. It is heavenly, overlooking the square. I am so grateful to have found this wonderful hotel.

We stopped in for dinner while in Gruyères along our 8-day trip through Switzerland. There was a good variety of options on the menu and I found the Cardinal ‘blanche’ to be pretty refreshing and decent, similar to a typical white ale / Hefeweizen. For my main, I ordered the combo fondue (half gruyeres and half vacherin cheese) which came with potatoes and bread. I found the cheese to have a well-balanced creamy flavor and almost tacky texture as it cools around the chunks of bread and potato. One suggestion would be to offer sliced up oven charred pizza crust with a light glaze of tomato sauce as an option for dipping into the cheese. I dipped my wife's pizza crusts into the fondue and the char and chewiness of the crust with the accents of tomato were a fantastic accompaniment to the fondue; way better than just the plain bread and potatoes. Perhaps the fondue community of Switzerland may find my suggestion appalling, but if they try it, I think they may come around because it was awesome. For desert, I had the 'apple pie' which was more like a tart served with fresh and delicious vanilla ice cream; this was definitely not your grocery store ice cream! Overall, we had an enjoyable dinner and would recommend other give it a try!

Went in here for a bite to eat when visiting the medievil town and what a great experience. You can sit with the large windows open out to a fantastic view. Food was brilliant and reasonably priced. Highly recommend visiting Staff were helpful and welcoming

Le Saint Georges was absolutely magical. Our entire stay in Gruyeres felt like a fairytale. We arrived well before check in but they happily took our luggage and worked with us to take care of check out then since we were leaving quite early the next morning. When we arrived back later in the day to officially get our room, they had already taken our luggage into our room. Our room was small but enchanting with a lovely window that opened up to the main street in Gruyeres. It did not have AC (we knew this ahead of time) but it was equipped with a fan that kept us cool overnight. Our room had a lovely and spacious bathroom with shampoo and conditioner, wash rags, and a spacious shower. The hotel also had great wifi connectivity. The hotel host was incredible as well- unfortunately I didn't catch her name! She advised us to try to get dinner at a certain time as many restaurants in the town close early and when we decided upon eating dinner at the hotel restaurant (which was incredible), the same hotel host was insistent on us getting a table by the window which had the most stunning view of the mountains during sunset. I would absolutely recommend that anyone visiting Gruyeres come to Le Saint Georges.
