This hotel has nice sized rooms and decent beds, and a good clean lobby. But the smell of mold in the room is so heavy it will gag you all nite long. Go into the bathroom and look at the ceiling, you can see how they have tried to paint over the black mold. But that has not covered the horrible odor of mold and mildew. In the bedroom area, the ceiling was also poorly painted to cover something up. For the exorbitant prices this hotel charges, they need to gut and clean up the mold before I will give them anymore of my money. I travel 4-5 times a month, am a platinum HIG rewards member and this Brookings HIE is among my top 3 worst hotels of all time. GROSS! I am physically ill from staying in this room.

We cancelled a hotel stay in a neighboring city at the last moment due to hotel standards. We called this holiday inn express and they welcomed us with all of our needs. Mara who helped us get checked in was amazing! She definitely a huge help on the phone and in person. The room was clean. Very quiet. Only thing I could complain about would be the tv. Not good. Breakfast was great. I would highly recommend.

We arrived at 3 when the check in was supposed to be and had to wait almost 2 hours for them to clean rooms before we could even get in. The hot tub was broken, they closed the slide before the hours stated they closed so my kids were unable to play. The lady at the front desk was very dismissive and rude.

We were in Brookings SD for a youth event at the Swiftel Center. Location was great for walking distance, breakfast was ok. The biggest disappointment was the water slide. It was only open on Friday and Saturday nights. We were there M-S so kids were not able to use water slide. With such a big youth event the hotel should have made accommodations for a lifeguard to be on duty for operating of the water slide during the week.

I have visited a lot of hotels this month and I tend to switch up between Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express. I have stayed at both in Brookings, SD. I can honestly say they should close them both and redo them. Holiday Inn Express is cleaner than the Hampton Inn but they need to fix the ceiling and do some updating. The room I am staying in is a suite and the ceiling is water damaged. It is probably from winter but I can honestly say that if I owned this hotel I would not want my guests to see this. I know it is all about the Benjamin's but the hotel does not show well in the rooms. Lobby and dining area is great but I don't lay in a bed there. When I lay down I don't like seeing cracks in the walls.
