ホテル バァラ(Hotel Vara)

We visited this lovely quant hotel in Truro on a recent trip to Cornwall. It is super central! The city itself is historic and charming, yet modern and this hotel complements that perfectly. Easy going breakfast and great staff! Free parking too which is a bonus! Thanks to Tim and the team! See you next time.

The room I was allocated was small. So small that a chair could not fit between the bed and the dresser. It had a high window and a ceiling window with a pole provided to pull the blackout curtain. The shower was tiny, my elbows touching both walls. On the corridor to the bedrooms there was very heavy air freshener usage and I always question why that would be needed. Some internet problems were eventually sorted but nobody able to resolve why my mobile phone could not connect. I think this "hotel" is over rated and over priced.

I'd echo Nirvana999; my experience and opinion is identical. Good points - comfortable bed, good (and fast) breakfast, attentive staff. The spa/sauna etc is now closed (forever?). The lock came away in my hand; "thanks for that", said the receptionist when I gave it to her. The hotel's under new ownership, (the family owns Mannings, the no1-rated Truro Hotel), and likely to be refurbished soon, they say. So things could change! I don't recognise the "Singing weekend" descriptions - clearly I should have been there! My experience was similar to staying at a B&B which I've done quite a bit recently; same facilities, same room size, same comfort levels, twice the price. It's a big hotel - 30 bedrooms, so doesn't have the intimacy and friendliness of the best B&Bs.

stayed for one night.When we arrived we were told the toilet flush was a bit dodgy and so it proved!Our room was very small but adequate.Decor was very tired and there were potential safety hazards like a narrow bath ,and sharp edge protruding from the radiator.On the plus side fluffy towels and decent bed and bedding.The young lady on evening reception was helpful and friendly and bar prices were reasonable.Breakfast was substantial,plenty of variety and good service.The new owners just need to refurb the rooms and it could be a gem.

Disappointing lack of character. No remote control on the room for the TV. Room Ok. No view. Continental breakfast only which was not pointed out on booking but only at arrival. Parking ok. Not too far from Cory centre but not central really.

My colleague and I held our new company's first consulting course at Hotel Vara as I had previously been to check it out and been very impressed. Tim, Hazel and all the staff made every effort to ensure the day went smoothly and the service was exemplary; polite, efficient, proactive...they had thought of everything and continued to be on hand to help throughout the day. The setting was terrific and every element from the aforementioned service to the food, the climate and the visual aids were top notch. We'll be recommending Hotel Vara as a destination to all our clients.

Chosen more or less randomly on *******. First impressions were that Truro is very hilly and the treck from the station is mostly uphill! Nice Victorian building in good condition and the room was fine- comfortable and quiet, with tea making as necessary. Nice bed and shower room. Haven’t had breakfast yet but the woodstove was very welcome on a wet evening.

Hotel has some really lovely original features in the lobby area. Has been nicely decorated and has a warm and cosy feel to it. Room was very clean and comfortable, and quiet. Had a good view, overlooking the car park towards the hills in the distance. Excellent breakfast. I also ate in the hotel in the evenings - the pizza and the greek salad were lovely, but the evening menu is a little bit limited - fine for a few nights though. Excellent location, easy to find and easy to park. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Hotel was amazing and host\owner Tim was exceptional. Extremely comfortable room, bed was great, free breakfast had a lot.to.offer. great location walking distance to Hall.of Cornwall. Tim put every ounce of his extensive hospitality background into this.property and has done it well. i will be recommending the Hotel Vara to others and will definitely return when I come back to Cornwall.
