ザ ライトハウス イン & キャリッジ ハウス(The Lighthouse Inn & Carriage House)

No explanation for the cable TV. We had to check ourselves in. They did leave us keys, map and wifi password. The room was clean but dated. Mattresses were really too soft.

Truly a wonderful little property in York Beach. Room was super clean and the balcony was awesome. My husband and I had just gotten married in NY and it was the perfect addition to our New England honeymoon. Super close to Portsmouth and lots of cute costal towns.

They left a note on the office door explaining they were short staffed and they left our room keys in the mailbox to the left of the door. The TV did not work. If you had a problem, Instructions on the door were to ring the doorbell and someone would answer...no one did after many times ringing in a 10 min time span...I called and left a voice mail and gave up...went to my room and there were 3 people heading in the same direction as me...turned out they were employees of the hotel...I thought they were short staffed!? Turned out we needed 2 remotes to operate the TV and there was only one!!! It delayed our dinner excursion by about 1 hour and we had to venture out into a strange area in the dark...totally disappointed in the hotel...the room was OK...nice and roomy...parking was a bit of an inconvenience. 4 marked spaces of 15 minutes only (to unload or load) and one of the spaces was occupied by the owner for way more than 15 mins!!

This place was clean but more like a motel setup and parking could be difficult. There is air conditioning in the rooms and they are spacious.

Friendly and helpful staff. Room very clean and comfortable. Close to beaches,shops and restaurants. Would return again.

We pretty much loved everything about this stay--so very close to Long Sands Beach, close to downtown for shopping and eating, close to lighthouse. The room was clean. We had one concern, and we shared it with front desk--the beds. What is the one thing you look forward to the most about a hotel? A nice firm comfortable mattress with excellent sheets and a cozy comforter. The mattresses were too worn, too soft, bouncy and mushy. The addition of a 'topper' just made things worse. All three of us slept quite poorly for two nights in a row, and nothing affects the quality of a weekend away worse than poor sleep. :( The front desk said that 'most people like the beds that way.' It's hard to imagine, but if so, perhaps hotels should offer people a choice between a firm and a mushy unsupportive mattress. Or just offer firm, and extra toppers for those that like mushy. And I can't imagine mattresses are ever supposed to be 'bouncy.' Unless they are very old and the springs are worn. So we did enjoy this stay a lot, would probably go there again IF they got new mattresses!!

Our room was nicely decorated, however, it had a lot of windows and the blinds didn't all work and the cranks to numerous windows were broken so we couldn't open the windows. Also, there was no closet. The location was fabulous and the hosts very friendly.

The location was great, just a short walk to the beach. Area is quiet and safe to walk around. The room was spacious and clean. Beds were super comfy. The heated outdoor pool and the hot tub was an extra bonus. The facility is very well maintained and the staff are great. We were late arrivals but they called me to setup for my arrival. Nothing negative to say about these hardworking people and the most pleasant stay. Also, a very short drive to area towns and restaurants. Would love to go back very soon, it was that good.

Great Staff, fantastic location, and the price was right. As stated it is a bit dated, yet very clean, welcoming staff and you can't beat the location. Will add it to my list of places I would return.
