We stayed at The Dock House for 3 nights at the very start of a 21 day holiday commencing in Cape Town. We have a preference for boutique hotels, they are usually quirky and the service excellent and I have to say we were not disappointed. The check in and welcome drink at the neighbouring Queen Victoria was efficient and welcoming and we were shown quickly to our room which was great as it was only mid morning. The room was lovely and spacious, with ample seating to relax, very clean and well presented. The bathroom was huge, with a shower room, separate toilet and bath area with a roll top bath. There was a welcome plate of sweet items presented on the desk, the chocolate brownie square and the Turkish Delight were outstanding and I still think about them! The hotel was fantastically placed for the V&A Waterfront and was in a very safe courtyard area. We had drinks at the Queen Victoria and ate dinner in the other linked hotel, the Victoria and Alfred. Our food there was extremely good. The service in all three properties was outstanding, everyone was very polite and helpful, from the restaurant staff, reception team, bar staff and also the outside team who set up the sun-beds each morning - who waved and called good morning when we were out on the balcony. Breakfast is in a small drawing room which at first looked rather formal, and wasn’t helped by us being the only ones there on our first morning, as we were up early to meet a tour guide, so we felt a little conspicuous! However other guests did arrive after a while and it felt less austere. Plenty of choice on the menu for cooked breakfast as well as pastries, cereal and fruit. The guesthouse manager who looks after everyone (whose name I cannot recall) was very efficient and clearly proud of the facilities, decor and flowers in the room which he had done himself. I do agree with a previous reviewer that it was slightly odd to be presented with a bill to sign on our departure day when the breakfast is included in your stay, so essentially this was really just for you to tip-while the service did warrant a tip it didn’t really feel quite right to have a bill handed to you for this purpose. Perhaps the hotel could look at an alternative way to cover this off-perhaps at reception when you check out? Our stay at The Dock House was a wonderful start to our holiday and we were blown away by Cape Town, so much to see and do we couldn’t possibly do it justice in three days, but will certainly be back for more in the future.

The hotel is very well placed in the V&A area and is very boutique. The staff were excellent especially Donovan and Ashleigh who looked after us all the time. The room was spacious with a separate bathroom, the bed was very comfortable and the view from the balcony was spectacular.

Firstly, I'd like to complement the staff on duty who have been helpful, friendly & willing. We booked a Luxury Suite for 3 nights. Upon check-in/ arrival we were allocated a Luxury Room (as we later found out) the only Luxury Suite was already occupied! We have Pre-paid for our stay in a Luxury Suite. We have asked to be compensated for the room downgrade. We will be changing rooms today, but as a result we haven't unpacked or been able to settle in & relax which is disappointing. We had booked 3 nights here (in a Suite) for that very reason. Our current Room, Dock House Room 4 - desperately needs some TLC. - Ripped & stained bedroom curtains; - shower needs a deep clean & maintenance; shower head not working properly; - bedroom carpet is heavily soiled, stained & in dire need of steam cleaning; - bathroom tiles need new grout; - toilet flush is (still) broken - lock to patio door was broken upon arrival - we requested firm pillows in advance. These were not provided & had to be requested late at night when we went to bed. Also, the aircon in gym is broken. It is the height of summer! We're now paying to use the Virgin gym down the road instead. This is one of the reasons we booked here as it had a gym on site. This establishment is not worthy of five stars. Reading some of the other reviews, basic maintenance & upkeep appears to be lacking. When did the GM last spend a night in hotel, or even inspect the hotel rooms individually? Let's see how we get on for the rest of our stay...

The location of the hotel was really great, walking distance to bars and restaurants in the waterfront. The hotel itself was just okay. For the price, we were expecting a bit more but it was fine. We might have just had a few odd experiences - we came back one night and there were bags of trash left in our room from another room haha and upon check-in, we were being sold a diamond shopping experience. It might have just been an off encounter. Pool area was nice and bar staff were really friendly! Room was really spacious.

The Dock House was a delightful place to stay in Cape Town - spacious and well-appointed rooms in a charming and historic building, good location and with excellent service. Ashley our host was delightful - engaging, knowledgeable and took great steps in ensuring a wonderful stay. Be sure to ask him stories about the history of the Dock House.

What a beautiful building, inside and out, right in the lively area of V&A. Everything was perfect and nothing was too much for a member of staff by the name of Ashley, he was attentive to all our needs and his ashleychino in the morning was a perfect start to the day.

We spent two, three day spells here at the beginning and end of our holiday to South Africa. The standard on both occasions was extremely high, whether we ate at the Dock House for breakfast or had an evening meal in the dash restaurant at the sister hotel, the Queen Victoria nearby. The staff were overwhelmingly polite and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. This is an excellent base for visiting Cape Town Waterfront and excursions to the wine lands, Table Mountain or trips around the Cape peninsular.

A welcoming room, with a beautiful view and always kept tidy by the staff who have always been kind, professional and attentive to our comfort. We felt pampered at all times. It is also located in a very safe area where there is an air of joy and sharing.

The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the waterfront. The rooms are beautifully presented clean and spacious and the bathroom is excellent. The separate dining room where we had breakfast is also beautiful. The breakfasts are substantial and lots of choice. Across the courtyard is the sister Hotel Queen Victoria which you are able to enjoy delightful drinks and food.

We visited Dockhouse as our first honeymoon spot whilst in SA. Wow what a welcome, the most fantastic, professional & lovely staff we’ve encountered. The service was exceptional from start to finish, especially from Jason :-) Our stay was wonderful, and the hotel is such a great base for sightseeing around CT and the local area. We would certainly recommend this place.

I decided to surprise my wife and we stayed one night at Dock House in a "Luxurious Suite", room number 3. We were warmly received, checked in and there is free parking. ALL staff are great, friendly and efficient and an excellent location from which to ecplore the Waterfront. Unfortunately the suite is not up to standard compared to numerous five star establishments we regularly stay in. It is poorly maintained and obvious lack of quality control or pre-arrival checks from a manager or supervisor. The bath mechanism allowing water to drain was broken and in fact half fallen out. So bath water could not run out. Rubbish bins are badly dented. The shower door does not close and left open with a gap of 1 cm because the support bracket is loose. The smaller (economic) water flush button of the Gerberit toilet did not work. The most serious issue, which is a very security risk and negligent oversight, is the interleading door between us and another suite was not locked, neither was there a key to lock it, and both suites' guests could freely enter the others' suite. None of these things should happen in a R10,000 per night establishment. Clearly things are managed from the Queen Victoria Hotel. There is not much happening at Dock House. We had breakfast at Queen Victoria and it was great with friendly, efflicient service. The surprising thing was after the included breakfast, we were actually presented with a "service bill/check". This is the first time ever in any five star hotel we saw this. All in all a pleasant but somewhat disappointing stay.

Our family stayed at the V&A hotel, but used to pool services and pool bar for 3 days during our stay. It was a beautiful and scenic spot, with a wonderful pool. The food was of a very high quality, with delicious local flavours and high end presentation. Special mention must go to Monica who looked after us really well throughout our stay, showing real professionalism and kindness.

We recently spent 12 nights at The Dockhouse and had a great time. The room was lovely, spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was great and they were more than willing to make changes to the cooked menu when we requested it. The location of this hotel is perfect for the waterfront and all the restaurants it has to offer. The staff were just wonderful and made our stay - service was excellent and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Tariiq and Donovan really looked after us in the hotel and Monica made sure we were fed and watered while we were by the pool. I also had a couple of spa treatments (with Destiny) and they were very good. This was not an inexpensive break (booked to celebrate retirement) but it was just so good that I cannot imagine staying anywhere else next time we visit Cape Town.
