The place was easy to find, accesible, close to Carlsbad village. You get what you paid for.

Rooms are very dated. Tv had lines through it, AC either blast cold air directly on the bed or was off, light outside room was flickering al night long, towels were stained. Not worth it at all.

Just need to be a bit cleaner inside the room. Mattress is older and has clear stains on in. No toilet paper dispenser in bathroom. Water takes 3-5 minutes to get warm after you begin running it.

It was a pleasure to CJ there he is just really a friendly face that makes you wanna come back to a place like that he takes care. They are on the spot they make it clean. It is nice. I would definitely recommend 500% to come rent a room for this place five stars I could give six I would.

Scandia is a good place. The room is very comfortable and the people who run it are nice. The parking is good; you can be very close to your room. The location is pleasant, close to everything with lots of choices of things to do around you in Carlsbad Village or neighboring Oceanside. There is an occasional freight train or Amtrack that goes by but it adds to the charm of the village. There is a historic prep school, Army Navy Academy that has a beautiful campus with lots of old trees. The campus is right next door on the south end and Scandia has the Buena Vista lagoon on the north end. Across the street are residential properties so the hotel is just outside the commercial zone and quiet. There is a traffic circle on the north end so passersby don’t drive fast and there is hardly any vehicle noise. The room has a cozy feel with a spacious shower and nice sink area. The heater is also wonderful. It’s nice to read at night with the ocean air coming through the window. Also there are nice window shutters. The housekeeping staff is great and you can find so many places to explore and walk. I also enjoy the little birds that fly around the property!:). As with any well-run property, if you follow the rules, are polite and courteous to other guests you will have a great stay at Scandia!

Scandia is a great property. The people who run it are very nice and get to know you. I have enjoyed my time here. There is easy access to everything; close to Carlsbad Village, the neighboring city of Oceanside, beaches, parks. What is really nice: it is off the main road but there is never heavy traffic. A car goes by here and there but since it is a quiet village, you don’t hear the noise of cars. There is an occasional Amtrack or freight train that goes by but it is brief and charming like quaint background music. For me it adds to the village/beach feel. The housekeeping ladies are wonderful, helpful and friendly. Restaurants are plentiful in both adjacent cities (Carlsbad and Oceanside) and there are fun local boutiques, independent coffee shops as well as a larger shopping mall about 6 minutes away. For theatre enthusiasts there is New Village Arts Theatre in the heart of Carlsbad Village known for its quality productions. There are refrigerators and microwave in the rooms, comfortable bed and spacious shower. People traveling through are from all over the US, visitors driving up the coast, etc.. Like any well-run place, there is an expectation to be courteous to other guests adjacent to you. If you follow the rules of the property you will have a pleasant stay at Scandia. What’s fun is you can take a leisurely stroll into the village past giant old eucalyptus and pine trees in the evening and walk back to your room for some fresh air and exercise!:)

It took me a while to submit this review because this used to be my favorite motel get away. ROACHES in the refrigerator blew it for me. I noticed them the second day in the morning. I bought roach spray, sprayed and waited 4 hours for the room to air out. They were back as soon as I started preparing my dinner. I let the manager know and she offered my roach spray. Turns out they were living in the refrigerator door. I let then know on my way out. I had no choice but to start the full 3 days in that room because I couldn't get a refund. When I showed the manager the video of the roaches in the refrigerator door he said "Yeah, yeah, just give us a good review and I'll take care of that". I finally decided to submit this review because no one should rent a room and have to deal with roaches. So, if you book with The Scandia Motel, take a can a Raid just in case. On top of that a passion in the room 2 doors down walked in and out about 15 times an hour. So, it wasn't even quiet and peaceful like usual. I noticed a not change in clientele.
