We found few places to stay during commencement at UVA, and even this hotel had inflated rates and 2-night minimums that weekend. Overall, the property was dingy and tired and in need of updates and maintenance. The way the property is laid out is in long, dark corridors with dim lighting and little signage. The single elevator functions fine but needs its floor to be replaced. The room was acceptably clean, but continued the dark and dingy theme, with stained brown/grey carpeting. The bathroom was in dire need of maintenance and updating. A tiny corner vanity did not provide enough room for both me and my husband to place our toilet kits. The towel bar simply fell off the wall, showing evidence of prior, inadequate remedies. The drain in the shower took forever to drain, leaving me ankle-deep as I showered (and had a broken stopper, so that if you accidentally closed it, it could stay closed). There is no vent fan, and it shows, with peeling and blistering paint all around. The tile grout was stained, and there was messy grout/paint/caulk all around. Altogether unpleasant. I've been careful to judge this hotel against others of its class. In that regard, the bed was OK, and the amenities were as promised. However, especially with $300+ rates over graduation weekend, it was a drab and depressing experience.
