Dar Antonia is located in the Sousse Medina ; a wonderful Tunisian palace, converted into a boutique hotel. It only has a few rooms, hence not a lot of staff and it may be difficult to find someone at times. The place oozes charm, but comes with some practical disadvantages : lots of stairs to get anywhere, open bathroom, open toilet, noise from other rooms, etc It has a very upmarket (= expensive) restaurant, where a sensational fresh breakfast is served. A great rooftop space with a ”pool”, but it is the size of a spa ; a superb place to have a drink, but it proved to be hard to order any, as they have to come from the restaurant, two floors down (by stairs). Overall, Dar Antonia is your best choice if you like authentic charm and are prepared to put up with the impracticalities that are inherent to an old building.

My wife and I had a fantastic week here from start to finish. Only a couple of slight issues: checking in at reception was confusing, long winded and quite stressful, and our double room had two single beds pushed together which wasn't good. House keeping was excellent, and our room was spotless every day. The bathroom had a double walk-in shower which was fun! The food in the restaurant and snack bar was totally amazing; I don't know how they can produce such quality food, day after day. Our waiter, Brahmi was funny and always smiling and helpful. The drinks were good, even the local beer was nice! However the white wine was truly awful, but the red wine was okay. As for the beach it was lovely and quiet, and we sat there every day; nice loungers, and the security guys kept the beach sellers at a safe distance! The best bit was the waiter service from the guys at the beach bar, especially Jamel who was a top guy. At the pool, even though the setting was amazing, the music was a bit loud and it was too ”lively”. We liked the pool bar, again the service was first class. Overall it was a 5 star experience and we will definitely consider re-visiting without hesitation.

The animation team are amazing, every one of them taking time out of their day to make your stay fun, Malek, Alex and Panda have all been amazing. Abdelkader (outdoor terrace waiter) was the best and made sure we all had a table ready and for my son’s birthday, he organised it all to be set up for dinner. My son fell in love with him! I’m 100% going to come back just for the staff alone.
