"Quite a disappointing experience- NOT a family hotel, even though pools are supposedly designed for fun. No balls,, no snorkels or goggles, essentially, no fun. The hotel guests are mainly German and over 50. Two Germans screamed at us because we were enjoying a family conversation with our well behaved grandchildren- we were told to ‘silence’! - so don’t bring your children here if you want them to enjoy themselves. Rooms are very dated. We paid extra for a superior deluxe with sea view. However our daughters rooms were identical with exactly the same view but they paid less.The hotel is very ‘tired’ and in places desperate for attention. In our room the bathroom tile grout was awful and shower gel dispenser hanging off the wall. Air conditioning pushed out only warm air and the fan clicked constantly. The refrigerator was barely cold. With the exception of one or two, the staff seem tired, over worked and generally miserable. Pick your time for breakfast as when busy the staff just can’t keep up, we felt sorry for them as there just weren’t enough of them and some of the guests were quite rude - no wonder the staff aren’t happy. You can’t pay for anything in the hotel with card payments - it’s cash or on your room. The beach is lovely but you do have to pay for the loungers which we didn’t mind. The beach bar is great food. Search out the nice restaurants close by: Manama, Asia Garden and 555 are great. Don’t go to ‘China Town’ it was awful. Sorry to say we wouldn’t return to Costa Calma Palace. They should definitely advertise as family ‘unfriendly’ or German adults only. Hope this helps other families considering booking as we don’t usually do reviews"

"I’ve stayed in 3 stars that were better standard than this 4 star hotel. 1. Accessibility for people with mobility issues is frankly non existent, be prepared to walk up steep slopes just to go to eat. Ontop of that the slopes I mention are dangerous, I slipped and pulled my toenail up from the nail bed, nothing was on the floor it is just slippy, alongside this no signage is about to mention “slippery surface” as is typical in all other places I’ve been. 2. Cleaners and general cleanliness - yes the cleaners are plesant but frankly their “cleaning” is to be desired, frequently the corners of the room accumulated dust, leaves and general dirt which was left, they use the same mops/brooms daily (I was near the cleaning stores so saw them everyday) these mops and brooms were used on countless rooms across the complex so should have been disposed of atleast daily (due to bacterial issues), the bed sheets were changed twice while we were there (once a week) all they did in between that was make the beds, they also forgot towel replacement one of the days even though they had been in, often when they had been you could still find leaves randomly scattered around (I know it’s windy but it’s not difficult to prevent them being in the room), my mother in law and sister in law both had issues with ants getting onto the beds, into luggage and hand luggage which meant they had to remove all items and try to get rid of them from their personal effects, after the ants were resolved in my mother in laws room, she had cockroaches which she could hear scurrying around behind one of the panels in the room. They were told by the rep to deep clean the room daily (they just sprayed some bug spray) they were supposed to “cockroach proof” all 3 rooms and they never did (they stated it was a gel that goes all the way round the edge of the room, no such gel appeared). 3. The rooms, beds etc - the rooms were massively outdated it was like stepping back into the 90’s with mustards and brown curtains, a purple ceiling and black panelling on the walls. The beds were some of the most uncomfortable beds I’ve ever slept on, and every time I moved on the bed it made a metal on metal scraping sound (I expected to wake up on the floor one morning), you are given a single pillow (if it can be called that) it was like laying on tissue, the sheets were generic and were rather heavy (not what you want when it’s hot and you have been sunbathing). Moving to the bathroom, glass panel shower door which the seal had disintegrated so when you had a shower you flooded the bathroom, the bath you stood in was old (the bottom of it was scored) and no anti-slip was provided so it was a hairy experience getting in and out trying not to slip. The fridge only ran when the electric was on (card insert inside the room) so anything you put in didn’t stay cold at all, little pointless frankly. No kitchen/kettle/glasses were provided. "Where do I even start? This hotel has the audacity to advertise itself as 4-star, but in reality it’s barely scraping a 1-star standard. My two-week stay here was a catalogue of disasters that completely ruined what should have been a relaxing holiday. On arrival, I was left waiting over two hours just to get a room. When I finally did, it turned out to be the wrong one, and then I was moved to the other side of the hotel with zero help from staff to carry luggage. That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the trip. The rooms are old, dated and filthy. Housekeeping consists of making the bed and nothing more — no cleaning, no attention to detail. The air conditioning was a joke: either not working properly or rattling so loudly it was impossible to sleep. And no kettle in the room either — unless you enjoy dragging yourself down to the restaurant every time you want a coffee. As for cleanliness across the hotel? Absolutely appalling. Ant infestations, sewage issues, a pool that never looked cleaned once in 2 weeks, and a sun lounge area that was cleaned only once during the entire stay. Sun loungers are so limited that people were fighting over them, and the ones available were old, broken, and beyond tired. The food? Repetitive, bland, and boring — the same thing day in, day out. Entertainment? Dreadful. I’ve seen better performances at a village pub quiz. Staff? Utterly unhelpful, dismissive, and uninterested in solving any problems. Honestly, this hotel is a complete scam. It is not a 4-star by any stretch of the imagination, and selling it as such is misleading at best. My holiday was completely ruined by staying here, and I would strongly warn anyone considering this place to look elsewhere unless you want to waste your money and patience. Avoid at all costs."
