キャプテン ホイッドビー(Captain Whidbey)

Dinner was amateurish and not up to our expectations. No breakfast other than a little store that sold muffins, bagels and some refrigerated goods. No housekeeping on our second day -- we were faced with a pile of wet towels in our room. The hotel was making lots of execuses about Covid but I think the real problem was a ultra thin staff and a very poor working relationship between employees and management. Not representative of a hotel that claims to rate 3 stars.

Catching the last of the summer in the PNW has to include our favorite place that’s charm (thank goodness) hasn’t been altered much since 1908. This idyllic hidden gem epitomes the reason we all love this little corner of the Pacific Northwest.

We loved the quiet natural beauty of this hotel. The campfire at night engendered getting to know others. The U shaped bar was cozy with well made cocktails. The restaurant was very good with the exception of the chicken. The crispy skin came at the expense of dry meat underneath.

We've been coming here for years and unfortunately, the last few visits haven't been great. Not sure why, but ALL of the staff are incredibly young and inexperienced. Perhaps new ownership? We had an issue of finding 3 under-age teenagers shot gunning beers on our porch. When we spoke to the front desk about it, they said they didn't know what to do and had never had to deal with something like that before - the front desk person was perhaps 18 years old herself. She was not equipped to handle such a situation. She did inform us that the rooms next to us were rented by a family who was gathering at The Captain Whidbey to honor the passing of their loved one and indicated they will most likely be 'partying late into the evening'. When we said we found this to be unacceptable, she again said she didn't know what to do and shrugged her shoulders. She was right and the folks next door kept us up all night long. The Captain Whidbey is such a charming, lovely place to stay, however, recent changes to ownership and staff have turned it more into a place to party than a nice place to get away to. If you want to party - stay lagoon side. For us, if we ever go back it will only be to a private cabin.

This place is a gem. Definitely best suited for those who appreciate a unique experience, but we adored everything from the service to amenities to food.

My husband and I visited the Captain Whidbey for a little getaway in January. We enjoyed the island and this adorable inn so very much! We stayed in the main lodge. I was nervous about the shared bathroom, but it is actually very nice and luckily there were not many other guests when we were there (thank you, gloomy weather). The bar was wonderful and the decor was super cozy and welcoming throughout the inn. We will definitely be back!

Great location for relaxing. Property located on the waters edge. Sheltered front porch provided cozy spot for morning coffee. Furnishings hand made and beautifully crafted. Minimalist but all you need and very comfortable.

The property is well maintained while still giving a natural a warm and natural experience. Our room was cozy with knotty pine ceiling and paneling. The view from the big window overlooking the lawn, gazebo, and Penn Cove was so peaceful. I've been to Whidbey countless times over the past 30 years to stay weekends with my parents. Now that they've moved off island, we're so grateful to know Captain Whidbey is here to welcome us whenever we're feeling nostalgic. We look forward to longer stays as well. Those cabins look mighty inviting!
