This hotel is just superb. From the moment we checked in with welcome drinks, to the moment we left, our experience was amazing. The hotel itself is a restored colonial 16th century monastery with a stately 300-year old cedar tree in the courtyard. The rooms are therefore similarly unique in that every room is configured differently. The hotel was run by the Peruvian government until Belmont took it over 15 years ago. It now has all the star quality associated with this high end brand. You can request one of the 40 rooms with oxygen to help with the altitude. We did, and slept so soundly waking up refreshed — highly recommended for an extra cost! While the property next door has a pool and spa, the Monasterio has a fantastic massage menu, and we enjoyed the 30-minute acclimatization treatment. The breakfast buffet offers a great spread and there is live music in the lounge every evening. The location, too, can’t be beat. Everywhere you look, the place is covered in art treasures. Have to call out the professional and friendly staff particularly Lucas the guest relations manager who went above and beyond.
