Once we booked we received a call from the place which was very unprofessional with people laughing in the background while using a translation app.
Check in was not the most welcoming simply demanding our green codes and passports without as much as a hello. More about taking your dinner order where you are given somewhat of a hard sell for the roasted lamb which sounds beautiful but is ridiculously expensive as it appears to be half a lamb. Then after registering and giving a 100 Yuan deposit we were quickly shown to our room with a quick explanation on how to make curtains and to be told the TV doesn’t work. I guess it’s just for show even though it’s circa 1980! The room itself could have been cleaner and for the deluxe room the bathroom was nothing but a disgrace. (see photo)
For dinner we were given two options, a strict 6pm or 7pm. We opted for 6pm on our simple noodle and veg dishes and had to wait until past 6:30 to be served and that was just three dishes. When I brought this to the waitresses attention I was told firmly to WAIT! 50 minutes late my lamb noodles turned up as my family were just finishing. As it turned out my lamb noodles were actually lamb fat noodles. (See photo)
On the next table some guests were served the ridiculously expensive lamb which they began eating only to have it taken away from them as it was given in error. Did it then go to another table in another yurt, I am guessing as much.
We then went to see the horses, the ones we planned to ride the following day and were spoken to quite rudely about getting too close. One young man came over and politely explained he didn’t want us to get kicked. While we were doing this my 8 year old daughter was playing with a few other children on the trampoline before being angrily shouted at by some woman to get off. Good manners appear to missing throughout this camp.
The evening was much better with a firework display (do not expect careful health and safety) and sparklers along with a small fire. There was a small music and dance performance which was very nice.
Sleeping was near impossible either fighting off countless bugs or other guests partying until 3am.
As a result of the above we decided to scrap our plans of horse-riding/hot air ballooning/camel rides and check out 2 days early. We simply couldn’t trust that these would be safe/hygienic, have good service or value for money. To be fair we were refunded these two days nights but taking into the cost of getting to somewhere so remote it still turned out to be an expensive and unfortunate part of our trip. We chose this place on its Trip.com reviews and score of 4.9/5.0 I now have strong doubts that these are genuine guests reviews. We have travelled all over China and this is the first time I have had to write a review that is not very positive. This place needs to improve in nearly every single key feature of hospitality.
