Nestled in a serene and peaceful area, Kalundewa Retreat offers a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle. The staff's hospitality exceeded my expectations, with their attentiveness and warm demeanor enhancing my overall experience. The food surpassed all expectations, with each dish being a culinary masterpiece. Without a doubt, I wholeheartedly recommend for those seeking a tranquil getaway with impeccable service and exceptional dining. Exceptional experience hidden away in a middle of a small lake and paddy fields. We stayed one night in the Lower Bakmee which includes the private jacuzzi where we spent most of our time. Staff were amazing and well experienced. Food was great, we enjoyed each meal served to the room as we requested. The only downside is, the rooms need some renovations. Regular cleaning was good but it needs some major deep clean to bring it up to its original glory. Overall a great stay in a star class resort.

It was a great opportunity to experience a relaxed stay. The staff was very friendly , well experienced in hospitality and helpful as well. We stayed in Kalundewa Retreat for 5 days in a private villa. It’s not easy to describe our experience in few words but this was a paradise where we we lost ourselves in wonders of nature and thoroughly enjoyed the Sri Lankan hospitality. Very special thanks to Kanth and Samarasiri who are true ambassadors of this property. We have already planned our next trip to Kalundewa

You need to book the rooms with the plunge pool as these are built in water. you can really do bird watching and it is really peace-full. we enjoyed sleeping the curtains opened (not the windows - small insects) in the night the silhouette of the trees and the nature is a view we didn't experience in any other place. Food is not good! they really need to get a good chef.

We will remember our stay at this retreat with great fondness. Our room was located in the middle of paddy fields and had a view of the mountains. The operations manager Mr. Samarasiri was extremely warm, welcoming, and attentive to our needs. We enjoyed the food prepared to perfection with vegetables and herbs from the organic garden. If you love birds, this is the place for you. There are several peacocks here that lend beauty to the environment. There can’t be a better place to unwind and relax.

What can I say about this place, if you want a get away from it all experience in amongst nature then this is the place. Only 9 rooms scattered over 150 acres of rice fields, lakes and trees. The rice fields are leased to locals. Lovely walks in complete peace amongst an array of birds and monkeys. At 6pm hundreds of birds descend on the trees in the lakes to bed down for the night, it’s a sight to be seen and heard. All you can hear are birds, it was a refreshing sound after hearing traffic everyday back home. Bear in mind you are in fields with nature and nature sometimes pays a visit! The food especially the variety of soups at this retreat were the best we’ve had.

The architecture, the layout of the property is truly special and beautiful. The ethos of blending the hotel into its environs leads to a very special experience. From everywhere in out Chalet we felt like we were outdoor. The people servicing the place are very efficient and good. However I visited the property after many years and it’s a bit run down. You expect top notch “everything” at this cost - but the outdoor shower was dirty. The matter too springy. The sofa covers in the main areas all stained. The food was strictly okay It’s in need of an upgradation and re-haul to bring it back to the level of being the best property in Dambulla
