The Chesterhouse

Firstly don’t ever believe the photos you see on the web. This hotel looked ok in the photos with big spacious room and bay window. What we got was a run down box room with animal hair on the carpet located at the rear of the hotel. The bed was tiny the walls dirty and the bathroom was awful. The noise of drunken people all night in the alley behind us never allowed us a good sleep. No air conditioning or even a fridge. Getting to your room via a tiny lift, narrow corridors and a maze of stairs up and down via prison like doors makes for a unhappy stay. Like I say, don’t believe the web photos!!! At first we were in a room at the back of the hotel. We had to open the window as it was hot, the noise from seagulls and extractor fan was very loud. We asked if we could be moved and the staff were brilliant, moving us to a sea view large room which was lovely. The manager and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely and the evening meals were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

When we stayed there the room was not cleaned at all. When we asked the manager she said I could not be done anymore for whatever reason, so we asked for some discount, she said we should talk to the website and that she could not to anything. Do not recommend this place at all.

Large hotel on the sea front, 1 road back and you have the main high street. Room was ok, no view (shame) but the windows were covered in bird poo. Occupants were from organized groups and each group had set times for meals,, it worked. Good choices at breakfast and dinner and the meals were excellent.

Not a bad hotel but a few problems. There is a lift that only fits three people. Out of the lift there were eight steps down to my room! There are steps also from the hotel to the roadway. My single room was basic but adequate. Behind the window was just a wall. No view and I was paying a single-room supplement. It was a squeeze to get into the toilet. I did get a bath mat in order to use the shower which was adequate. There was excellent wifi reception in the room. Breakfast and evening meals were at set times and all self services. The food, on the whole, was excellent. I liked the fishcakes especially. I was disappointed that ice-cream wasn't an option for dessert although the lemon-drizzle cake was very nice. The staff were all very friendly. The location along the promenade is excellent.

Our room was at the back of the hotel and quite small. It is the smallest double bed we have ever slept in. the shower, however, was good and easy use. Just and on/off switch and the temperature of the water did not need adjusting. The food was good. Plenty of choice both at breakfast and dinner. So much easier to have a carvery than to be waited on at the table. The hotel is well situated with views over the bay. There is, however no sitting room to relax after the evening meal. The entertainment was held in the dining room. Shame as the hotel on the whole was very good.

Great Hotel, seafront location. Large Seaview room, lovely/ clean/fresh. Good food, dining room clean and tidy at all times. Plates cleared from table very quick, plenty of staff available at all times to ensure our stay was as comfortable as it could have been. Definitely recommend this hotel, would stay again.

Excellent stay, good breakfast, rooms refreshed daily. Bed comfy, decor nice, bathroom abit pokey but functional. Lift is very small, suitable for one person even though it says 4 lol. Only let down was the WiFi, it kept loosing signal, evening meals samey.

Great staff very helpful and friendly nothing to much trouble for them . Great breakfast and plenty of staff to clean tables and bring coffe /tea as soon as you arrive in the restuarant. Room not the biggest but tea/coffee available plus busicuits replenished every day. Very narrow staircase and corridors to rooms. The only downside was a large duct pipe outside our window against the wall ( no view) which fired up about 5.30am each morning which wakened us up as it was quite noisy. If returning would pay for a front facing room. No parking but could park on road outside with parking disc for 2 hours at a time up till 6pm.
