"Average stay. Rooms are nice and breakfast is good. The area is dangerous with your typical abandoned buildings, vagrants and criminal elements throughout the area. There is no lunch or supper, which means that you have to order takeaways, or catch an Uber to take you out to a safer place. I won't be back. "

"Myself and a few of my classmates stayed at The Hillcrest for just under a month while on a research placement in East London. Our entire stay was wonderful from start to finish. Heidi greeted us in-person when we arrived and had gone to the effort of adjusting reservations so that we could have the largest rooms since we were staying for a while. My first thought seeing the rooms was that it looks just like the photos. The breakfasts are amazing and displayed beautifully, and the staff deliver them right to your room. A few mornings we had to leave quite early, and Heidi still made us breakfasts in packs that we could take with us. Naturally as first time travellers to South Africa, we both got sick early on, and Heidi checked in regularly to see if there was anything we needed. We felt very taken care of, and it gave our families back home peace of mind. She gave us several recommendations for places to eat and things to do, all of which were excellent. The house itself is in an upscale neighbourhood, with security presence in the area so it feels safe. I would recommend The Hillcrest without hesitation for anyone looking to stay in East London."
