Stayed with a friend who had been recommending that I visited for several years… I now know exactly why! Bencista is quite simply a unique place with real character that simply oozes charm. From the wonderfully welcoming reception staff and the tastefully decorated rooms to the awe inspiring views of the valley and Florence beyond, the stay was unforgettable. A special mention must be made of the exceptionally imaginative seasonal food, the extensive and thoughtful wine list, great cocktail barman and superbly attentive and knowledgable service. Highly recommended!

Very nice hotel outside Florence with a stunning view. The hotel in itself is basic but definitely adequate, but you should stay here for the stunning view of Florence and a brilliant cuisine that is worth travelling for. The place is highly recommended.

I have stayed here at least 3 times over 25 years. This penzione is not a typical one. It's much nicer and elegant than a typical accommodation in its class. Everything about the establishment, including the building, furnishings, and art are very old and very Florentine. Some may be original to the building, or it least it seems that way. I was told it's the same family who has owned and operated the property for many generations. The views over the city are amazing and they serve delicious food and hospitality. It's easy to get to and from Florence city center by public bus- also nice. This is a must-stay place for people who want the full Florentine experience!

Very nice to get out of the noise and crowds of Florence. They arranged taxis into town every day. The view of Florence from the bar and restaurant terraces is spectacular.

There is magic in this wonderful pensione. It is a composition of beauty, history and hospitality. It is a rare pleasure to stay in a place where people choose to fill the inviting public spaces rather than stay in their rooms watching videos and scrolling through their cellphones. This is a place of engagement on all levels - with the landscape and the city of Florence beyond; with the arts of the pensione and those who stay and those who staff it; with the history of a place that has seen much. In this pensione, you can dream. You can step away from the mundaneness of travel accommodations and go to a place of your senses. I did not want to leave and head to the airport where I would land into a practical world of communication and transportation - a place where I had to be in the present moment. I wanted to soak in the timeless Bencista. I wanted to read some more. I wanted to be in natures’ silence. It should not be missed….And I caution you, don’t leave.

Magnificent views from the majestic gardens. The hospitality was superb…service and respect was aplenty. The room was very clean, hot shower excellent and the mattress was new. There is an elevator which is a plus with luggage. Taking drinks on the terrace and continuing with dinner in their restaurant is an ideal relaxing evening. The restaurant has the view of The Duomo and downtown all lit up! Easy to get to downtown Florence with a car. Also sufficient parking on the grounds

A picturesque, quiet and opulent place to stay whenever visiting Florence. The view of Florence is excellent, the food is good and access to both Florence and nearby fine dining is convenient. Our "go to" place near Florence since 2012, and it will remain so.

My wife and I stayed here for a few nights. The staff were all very nice, the views were amazing and we enjoyed our stay. Dinners were enjoyable and the wine selection was nice. Breakfast was also excellent.

After two weeks in bustling Florence, it was nice to get out of town for a relaxing stay. In between the afternoon rainstorms, we enjoyed having drinks on the terrace and dinners in the dining room. Breakfasts had a good variety of choices, and we particularly liked the melon as our Florence hotel didn’t offer that. The staff were very nice.

This place delivers exactly what it advertises. Authentic Tuscan experience, charming rooms, unbelieveable views, professional service. It's like staying in a medieval castle with breakfast service. The bus route is within a 10 minute walk and it's much easier to get into Florence than we expected. I wish someone had encouraged us to spend more time in the town of Fiesole itself as it's charming and offers its own restaurants/bars away from the crowds of Florence. One note - sounds carry through a medieval castle and we could hear any and all activity in the hallway/lobby/kitchen as well as the people staying above us. Not sure I would recommend for light sleepers. :(

Beautiful property tranquil and near to Florence and Fiosole. Some staff could benefit from hospitality training. Disappointed with restaurant hours and quality. Unreliable bus so depended on expensive taxi service.

Excellent room and facility in general but I don’t recommend eating at the restaurant. There are many better restaurants options around.

The setting was spectacular, the common rooms wonderful. The food was very very good. The bathroom was very much on the small side.

We chose the Pensione for three reasons. Firstly, a delightful looking older building, lots of character and decades of family commitment and management behind it. Delivered. Secondly, wonderful views from high above the valley over towards Florence. Delivered. Thirdly, glowing reviews on Tripadvisor. Unfortunately, these reviews are no longer warranted. The problems we experienced were all management related. Senior management was imperious in tone, easily verging into hysteria at times. We had booked eight days with breakfast and dinner included in the room rate, which is standard practice in Italy. On our second day we were offered an upgraded room for an additional 30 Euros per night. We accepted. High drama ensued at checkout as it appeared that the half pension rate had been discontinued for no given reason and without informing us verbally or in writing. We were presented with an additional charge of 560 Euros for the "half board" set dinners. We did not dine à la carte. We declined payment, which led to shouting, calling us "cheapskates" and worse. We were threatened with the police! Although we were under no legal obligation to do so, we agreed to pay half this surcharge. Gracelessly received. We have never before been personally abused by hysterically raised voices from hotel management. A most unpleasant experience. Recent reviews on Tripadvisor.it describe similar treatment from this particular person in charge of the Pensione at present.
