Good at location but should improve in cleanliness. The smell is not good in the room.

You get what you pay for. Dated and Basic. Stain on carpet. Bathroom Drawers Stained and Dirty. Rang before I got there to see what time Restaurant Closes Person said 9pm. Got @ 8pm - told Restaurant Shut, only Bar Snacks available. Not good enough

Very old decor. Old sheets. Hotel smelled of cooking oil. I bit more attention to cleaning would have been good, e.g. the exeplair duct in the bathroom was thick with grime. For this level of room I would have expected to pay $60 - $85, not $105.

don't speak good English so very hard to understand most items on menu crossed of unavailable what was available was poor quality i do not think they know much about hotels and how to run them .. embarrassment to have taken friends there . never again

Walked in for dinner & walked out again. This used to be a great hotel, now it's run down, dark & smelly - totally uninviting! The cash only, no eftpos handwritten sign on the door looked dodgy as too!

Web site is totally out of date. Tried to book online twice, unsuccessful. Tried emailing with booking, only to get a ‘thank you for your email’ response. Tried phoning, no joy. Because the site and comments seemed ‘Heritage’ persevered and booked Xpedia. The hotel is rundown and tired but has the potential to be a great stopping off point enroute to the bike trails and points south. Needs to lift their game with overseas tourism picking up

I stayed in the 'backpackers' section as I was trying to be budget conscious (NZ$50 for one person, one night), and all I really needed was a warm shower and a bed after a tramping trip. I was expecting a quaint little hotel with basic facilities but generally clean, but unfortunately this was not the case. The staff were mostly friendly but rather uninformative, I was given no information about the room unless I went back and asked. There is no customer parking, I was told I could park on the street in the public timed parking as 'nothing bad has happened yet'. The backpacker unit is separate from the main hotel, and has a small kitchenette with a kettle, fridge, and microwave but definitely could do with cleaning. A spider is climbing up the wall of the hotel room as I write this review.

Hotel was cold and unfriendly. Limited pillows and blankets with no heating. No bar or restaurant. Very unloved building for a Heritage listed building in bad need of a lot of TLC
