This hotel appears to be new so I'm going to be kind! I arrived after dark and parked (for free) in the hotel's underground garage. I noticed there was a security guard sitting on a chair. I asked why the hotel needs a security guard in the garage and he said there is a problem with homeless people. Having already checked-in on the app, I took the elevator directly to my room, only to discover that the digital key did not work. I went down to the lobby and saw no one behind the counter (or anywhere else). I stood in the empty lobby for about 5 minutes before finally venturing down a hallway and finding a woman sitting in an office. Once I was finally able to get in my room, I was initially pleased with what I saw -- until I looked in the bathroom and saw a used face cloth on the soap tray in the shower. Gross. There were no clean face cloths in the bathroom and only one hand towel and one bath towel (suggesting that whoever had cleaned the room had not bothered to replenish the towels). Since there were only six other cars in the parking garage when I arrived, I figured there were not many people staying in the hotel -- and, indeed, I heard no one else on my floor and saw no one else in the elevators. In the (free) breakfast room in the morning, I saw no one else (except a colleague who was staying in another room). In terms of location, the hotel is within walking distance to many restaurants, bars and take-out places -- but downtown Hamilton seems a bit moribund and sketchy at night. I didn't feel particularly safe walking alone after dark in the neighbourhood around the hotel. My assessment is that this could one day be a good hotel despite its location.
