Incredible value!! For $100 USD a night, I got a wonderful room, laundry facilities, breakfast and happy hour, and an amazing Japanese bath/spa complete with popsicles. I doubled my time here because it was the best value hotel I stayed in on my Japan trip (I also stayed at the Conrad Tokyo!) - I would go back in a heartbeat. Super helpful and friendly staff, the best location in Takayama, and an amazing vibe. Just stay!
We stayed at the ryokan for a night and have mixed feelings about this place. Our room (3028) is what I consider a must-avoid. the carpets had all sorts of stains on it, some probably coming from bleach, some others I couldn't explain, walls were full of holes and cracks, their shojis (sliding doors) were also spotted and the small balcony had some soft spots in the carpet, probably coming from mouldiness. On the other hand, the location of this place is scenic, in the japanese alps, and they had the best onsens of our 14-day trip
Fake “Japanese” style guesthouse not hotel. The website is deceiving. The name says modern. It is not. The website states it’s a Ryokan. It is not. In fact it’s a rather cheap, mediocre and overpriced guesthouse. Reception works part time with non-Japanese staff who seem very disinterested. The room we stayed in is substandard. With one side like a fish ball facing the yard where every other guests goes by and look inside and the second facing a wall. Tiny shower combined with toilet. Very non-Japanese. Japanese breakfast picture shown on website doesn’t exist. After one night, our room was not made up and when we complained we were told we had to put a card on the door. A card was not supplied nor mentioned upon check-in. No apology. We felt like we are an annoyance. The reception staff is not sensitive and quite cold, functional and robotic. We definitely overpaid as I would consider this a 2* guesthouse or hostel at best. Good for backpackers who can afford the exorbitant price but don’t mind the low quality. The only star was the coffee machine. Will not return.
There are a lot of ”supers” about this hotel: - Super nice design. There are a lot of hotels in Japan that are on the cheaper end of mid-range that fail in the design category, but not the Eph Takayama. - Super close to the train station. It was an easy walk with our carry-on, wheely suitcases. - Super close to old town and the various Takayama attractions. - Super breakfast and coffee/tea/cocoa station. The breakfast was more like lunch (panini, salad, and soup), but it was all freshly made and delicious. There was also a coffee/tea/cocoa machine that was available to guests from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. - Super convenient to have coin laundry available in the hallway. We took full advantage of this! If we ever go back to Takayma I won't bother looking for anywhere else to stay - the Eph it is!
Everything is perfect, big room with private bath. Also there is a small kitchen and microwave in room so that we can cook simple food like noodles and heat up the instant food we bought. No need to eat outside. Room is comfort, and the TV is smart TV which we can watch netflix or youtube. We definitely had great time there. Moreover, the location is good, only few steps away from train station and historical street. Highly recommended
ゲゲストWe stayed at Hotel Associa Takayama Resort as part of our tour group. We had a spacious twin room on the 15th floor of the Alps Wing which was the largest room of our tour. The room was very comfortable as were the beds. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The resort is on the outskirts of Takayama but there is a shuttle bus into the centre of the city. There are limited restaurants in the hotel and 2 of them were booked out by the time we arrived. We managed to book into the Japanese restaurant and had a delicious meal there. The breakfast buffet didn't have cereal. There was a laundromat on the ground floor which consisted of a number of combined washing machine/dryers which dispensed their own detergent.
