First time in Tunisia and overall a very good experience at this lovely hotel. Reception is large, comprising of sofa seating but I noticed this was taken by families majority of time especially as it doubled as the entertainment venue in the evening and this left no availability for couples or singles to sit on normal evenings. Tables and Chairs from the terrace were brought in on New Year's Eve to provide for additional seating but some guests were still without seats to enjoy the entertainment. Receptionist welcomed us , put on our wristbands, gave us our room card, explained the meal times and changed some pounds sterling for dinar. The porter then carried our cases and took us to our room and shawed us around. Room was 302 and had a stunning view over the gardens with sea view. Mini Fridge is supplied, No teamaking facilities so bring a travel kettle or hire one from reception for small charge. As all inclusive coffee is available from the bar as an alternative. Decor was dated especially in bathroom but room was clean, fresh towels every day, cleaned incl7ding balcony, beds made every morning. Bathroom has shower over bath, toilet, sink. Cheap toiletries are provided, but we took our own so didnt use theirs. Hot water was instant. Can't drink tap water not even for brushing teeth but not a problem as you can get 1.5l bottles from bar or restaurant by asking. All included so no running to supermarket and extra expense and carrying it. Restaurant was constantly being swept and tables cleaned after use and before resting. Staff were pleasant and attentive welcoming you and fetching drinks. We were lucky to have 2 wonderful waiters, at lunch Salah at lunch, Rami at dinner, who really enhanced our experience and ensured that we were happy and provided us with information when we asked questions. Food at both breakfast and dinner was plentiful with a large variety. Breakfast : Cereal bar, Fruit, Juices, Coffee, Tea, Pastries, croissants, bread rolls, sliced bread, fresh bread to cut, butter, jam, etc. Lady cooking fried eggs , poached eggs and omelette to order was fantastic, really quick and efficient, and always had a smile. Buffet consisting of sausages, beans, grilled tomatoes etc. Another cooking station made doughnuts, big hit with kids. Small toast machine, would improve experience if had more than one or larger one as queues were common after 9am. Dinner :Extensive Salad Bar, Soup, bread, Pasta station, Pizza station, Meat station, Fries, Vegetarian option, selection of vegetables, carrots, sprouts, potatoes, glazed onions, courgettes, peppers, rice, Beef, Chicken, Lamb or Turkey options were available over the week. Chicken nuggets for kids was an option as well Desserts : selection of bite size desserts, eclairs, tarts, chocolate sponge or bread pudding and custard, Angel delight style dessert, 4 x ice cream selection, fruit station were all available on different days during our seven days All was hot and as you can see there
Lovely holiday we returned yesterday having stayed for 9 nights from boxing day over New year , we feel we have been very well looked after at Marhaba club, Amine from the animation team was a darling and chatted with us every day he is always smiling and happy and that makes you feel happier too Thanks for entertaining us and teaching me some Tunisian dancing 😂 The bar staff who were great bringing our drinks out of an evening Moez & Osama and coffees in a morning I honestly do not know where people who have written these awful reviews are coming from before we arrived I was dreading it after reading some, we didn't stay in the hotel 24 /7 though we went on some amazing trips and went out and about every day , el jem is a must see and kairoan was another fantastic trip , the food was good and we ate most days but also had some lovely meals out as well Tariq was a lovely host in the restaurant and the managers in there were always nice the omelette man deserves a pay rise he works so hard . The room was always cleaned well and our cleaner left towels folded in the shape of hearts etc any problems we had were sorted immediately by reception. To be honest the people who work in the hotel make it so special we felt like friends returning even though we have never been before and would imagine when people holiday alone this would make it so reassuring for them . Well done Marhaba club what a fantastic team . We will definitely return, a happy holiday was had by is both.
Dar Antonia is located in the Sousse Medina ; a wonderful Tunisian palace, converted into a boutique hotel. It only has a few rooms, hence not a lot of staff and it may be difficult to find someone at times. The place oozes charm, but comes with some practical disadvantages : lots of stairs to get anywhere, open bathroom, open toilet, noise from other rooms, etc It has a very upmarket (= expensive) restaurant, where a sensational fresh breakfast is served. A great rooftop space with a ”pool”, but it is the size of a spa ; a superb place to have a drink, but it proved to be hard to order any, as they have to come from the restaurant, two floors down (by stairs). Overall, Dar Antonia is your best choice if you like authentic charm and are prepared to put up with the impracticalities that are inherent to an old building.
