We booked a much needed two day break in The Great Southern Hotel in Killarney in between treatments for health issues. We were looking forward to this break so much as we had previously had so many breaks in The Great Southern Hotel and Hayfield Manor The break was booked by telephone. Unfortunately we were not advised that the hotel was undergoing renovation. We arrived at 4.30pm, room not ready. We were directed by a very nice receptionist to a temporary bar downstairs for complimentary coffee. Heating in our room did not come on until 6pm, only top of radiator heating. Evening meal in restaurant disappointing. Looking forward to having a bath…..going to have early night……that’s when issues arose……. After having bath, and pulling plug on bath and running water, horrified to see what appeared to be sewage running from tap. Rang reception, who immediately offered to change rooms….. at this stage, what was supposed to be a comfort break…. declined , too late. Advised we were checking out in morning and would like to speak to member of management in the morning. We checked out without showers and waited until 11.30 to speak privately to one of management team , no one available until then. We advised of issues with bath water and our concerns as one of us had health issues with open port and had had a shower. We were given a business card to contact and we would be “looked after” for our next stay. Great Southern have reached out to us by email since our experience offering contact phone numbers if we stay there again. Our initial booking booking cost us €600 odd We were charged €272.75 We will not be staying again.
