Samui Orchid Resort is a pleasant place on the beach, but is a bit dated and worn down. There are no restaurants on-site, but there is a good restaurant a 100 yards down the beach. At the moment, most of the resort is occupied long term by Russians and hotel guests have access to only one of the three large pools. Our room was clean, although there is some mildew in the shower grouting, which is usual for tropical places. Our bungalow has a small, private pool in front that is about four feet deep. Our room was cleaned with clean towels, clean sheets, and bottled water daily. There is a mini-frig and an electric coffee pot in the room. We compensated for the lack of an on-side restaurant by getting cereal, milk, juice and other easy foods for breakfast and lunch from the convenience store that is an quiet 1/2 mile walk away. We stayed here because of the access to Mahalo Kite School, which is just left of the resort on the beach. If you are a kiter it’s very convenient. Response by the staff to the few problems we have had was prompt and courteous. The beach is shallow and not suitable for swimming, but fine for wading. It’s perfect for kiting.
