First off, Shareen, the owner is very kind. The house is well-kept and clean. There is some cat hair, but we weren't there long enough for it to get on our clothes and such. There is a community kitchen, which is very convenient. The continental breakfast is completely serve yourself, but Shareen does show you what's available upon check-in. We did not have a key to our room, so it was slightly odd to leave for the evening to go eat dinner and leave the room unlocked. We did not ask, as we weren't quite sure where Shareen was. There may have been a room key available, but we weren't given one. The location is lovely- perfectly distanced from Mission Bay, one of my favorite places in Auckland. Another quirk is that shoes need to be removed upon entrance, which is totally fine since it's her house. But it's inconvenient when you're walking up and down stairs and outside to unload and load luggage. Otherwise, it's no big deal.

Shireen was a lovely hostess. We were welcomed warmly and when we left she sent us on our way with some freshly baked scones. We would have preferred an ensuite rather than a private bathroom down the hall.

Lovely host and house. Room and bed was very comfortable, slept like a baby after a very long flight to NZ. Only 5 min walk to the beach, great for a quick dip. Parking is on the road outside.

Not a good experience at all.
We had not even step foot in the room that the host threatened to kick us out with the reason that we were 4 young adults. After being insulted and reminded that our place was in backpackers… The room, even though available for 4 adults and despite how beautiful it is, is not suitable for more than 2 people. We had to sleep on a inflatable mattress on the floor to fit in.
The room itself was cleaned and tidy. But our bad review is here to remind the host (which is far from being an hospitality professional) that we can’t treat guests like they did. Yes we can be under 30 and yet be tidy, respectful and leave the place just as we found it.

Host Shareen was wonderful: helpful, great communication especially with our very late arrival due to flight delay; rooms was modern, comfortable, clean, quiet; bathroom was very modern with great shower. Common kitchen and lounge was comfortable, and outdoor table and yard were peaceful with lots of bird song. The 5 minute walk to the beach is lovely with restaurants and cafes close by.
Each morning Shareen made something special for breakfast which was a bonus. Will definitely stay again.
