New Era Hotel

I spent two nights as a solo traveler. The hotel is a little bit difficult to find, my taxi driver had to ask for directions. At the time we were basically outside the hotel. We had a bit of a laugh. Check in was straight forward normal procedures and a check of the health codes on your Health App. Counter staff do not have high English language skills and I have low Chinese language skills so an issue with two room bookings took a while to resolve. It took a couple of phone calls to the travel agency, but eventually it was sorted. Not the hotel's fault the Travel Agency had not completed their side of the paperwork. My room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Very nice in fact. Breakfast was a buffet style with a wide range of foods to suit all tastes. I did try to have dinner in the Western Restaurant, but I was told no Western Food, so I left for elsewhere. The Hotel is right in the Commercial centre of the city. Shopping malls, restaurants, banks are literally metres from the front entrance. The "Old Street" is also only a short walk away and this is full of tourist shops, shopping malls, restaurants, street food stalls and drinking establishments. Suitable for families, party goers, window shopping, meals and relaxation. Longer walks get you to parks and other tourist attractions. On that note, the New Era is a triangular shaped building, I was disorientated when leaving it and generally set out in the wrong direction when I left it. I would stay here again, it is a relatively long way from the Airport, but it is right in the heart of the city for convenience.

The rooms are quite old and my first room smelt damp. The reception staff are excellent however, and moved me to a better room. Decent gym for a cheapish hotel. Excellent buffet breakfast!

Good location in city area beside the hotel alot of convenient store and even shopping mall, good customer service,room clean.

New Era Hotel is our hotel in Kunming. Really kind staff, very confortable rooms, good matelas, delicious and full chinese and western breakfast, very good location, in the heart of the city, close to Subway, to Old Street...Everything was perfect. Ah! And high quality tea in the room!

Free wifi access is poor in such a big hotel in both occasions of stay. The reception staff was not able to help.

The kocation is very conveinence easy to access for both metro and bus. Staff is kind and helpful.

This hotel's location is excellent. Lots of food nearby. Less than 5 minutes walk to Metro station (Wuyi station Gate B). About 15 minutes walk to Kunming old street. Many departmental and supermarkets next to the hotel. There are also several pedestrian malls within walking distance. There is also a Food Court inside the supermarket of Parkson departmental Store (next to the hotel), If you prefer to eat in air con. 30 minutes walk to a very large wet market, and to Green Lake Park. The noodles at breakfast is very good. Although the hotel is a bit tired, but the rooms are clean and they provide the usual toothbrush, shavers etc. The hotel even provide 2 apples every day. The complimentary quality Chinese tea is a welcome change from the normal tea bags tea. They also provide 4 bottles of drinking water every day. We will definitely stay here again. And oh, the cleaning ladies are so polite and efficient.
