From the moment we arrived, Dalida and her team made us feel at home and looked after us like nobody ever has on our holidays. Despite one of us (Robert) being ill on arrival, we both felt very relaxed within a few hours. All the staff were exceptional - they were a pleasure to be with and we enjoyed having interesting conversations with them. We were so impressed to be given wonderful service by each and every member of staff. The views, as other reviewers have already written, are absolutely stunning. We particularly loved that we had a choice of view: west towards Le Morne Brabant and coastal views to the front of the chalet, and east into the forest from the balcony at the back of the chalet. As a result, we had amazing sunrises and sunsets every day! Lovely similar coastal views from the restaurant and the pool too. The chalet was very spacious, with a large firm but comfortable bed, a fridge, a separate area for tea/coffee making and a beautiful bathroom. The birdlife, lizards and flora at the Chalets Chamarel were an added bonus. Dalida went beyond expected levels of customer service when she suggested calling a doctor to check out my husband Robert as his condition was not improving and he could not enjoy his holiday. We had a very efficient service from a friendly and knowledgeable doctor who came within a few hours and diagnosed an intestinal infection. He prescribed various medications including antibiotics and within less than 24 hours, we were hiking in the Ebony Forest! We were so grateful to everyone involved. A wonderful surprise was how I (Chrissie) was made to feel special about my birthday. The cleaners saw my cards in the room. Having subsequently mentioned that the birthday was a few days ago and that the staff at the hotel in La Reunion did not acknowledge this on the day, despite knowing about it...a birthday cake made out of towels and flowers appeared on my bed and the best table was reserved for us outdoors, with more birthday messages and a lovely chocolate cake at the end of the meal. The coffee could be improved and some evening meals were a little dry. However, these are trivial and frankly unimportant when you consider everything else. We had only 4 nights here and could happily have stayed for weeks. It was fine not having a car, as we could walk to the waterfall and the fantastic, hiking friendly Ebony Forest reserve. For longer stays, a car is essential if you want to explore beyond walking distance from the chalet.
