Monte Do Zambujeiro

Great place to relax. Pure nature and wonderful river views. Monica is a perfect hostess. With her open and honest personality she creates a very special a**osphere. We gladly followed her advice for trips and restaurants. The lovingly prepared breakfast on the sunny terrace will be in our Memory for a long time.

We stayed for one night in Nocember 2023 during our Fisherman’s Trail. If we had more time, we would have loved to stay longer. It’s a 700.000 sqm property in natural reserve, no neighbours, no street just a mainhouse, Guesthouse and farmbuildings. The property is atop a hill with great view, next to a nice river. We forgot something in the room an the host organised a transfer to a hostel 3 travel days later -amazing, thanks!

Wonderful attentive staff & Monica very helpful in this little pocket of peacefulness in nature. Pool is great. Breakfast is fab. Accommodation is just right for the location. Lovely relaxing views. Good value for money. We’ll be back I’m sure at some point.

Stunning place with very nice staff and wonderful service. Breakfast was a highlight with only local products served outside in a beautiful environment. At morning sheep and a donkey shows up. This is a real quiet and peaceful place with an unforgettable view over the river Mira. Rooms are very clean and there are nice small routes around the hotel and you may bath in the river from a small pier. Please note that the beach is a bit clay like if you walk there. Wonderful birdlife and looking at stars in the night is fantastic.

There has always been a swampy sadness for me about these riparian landscapes such as the traveler finds at this bend of the Rio Mira. In this case, the Monte do Zambujeiro offers little to lift his mood. Perhaps Jose Saramago would have found a kernel here with which he could identify the "real" Alentejo as he made his way to Portugal early in the post-Salazar times. But today the traveler is greeted with a tired bed, a restaurant only open by special arrangement, and a hospitality that one may courteously describe as perfunctory and transactional. The traveler and his companion were reminded more than once of the check-out time (11 a.m.) and were careful to depart at 10:50 a.m. both to make the point and to be spared being tossed out like used linen. Others chasing the ghost of Portugal's literary Nobelist around the country may choose to stop and stay here, but this traveler will pass on doing so again, instead making his way on to a more comfortable place at which he and his companion may lay there weary heads. It takes the fullness of time to create a property that is memorable and worth visiting; it need not be the work of generations to provide a warm and generous hospitality.

We had an absolutely fabulous stay on our first trip with our 7-month old. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier and more helpful and the scenery is frankly astonishing. All the kit you need and short drives to some incredible beaches. Loved it.

Loved staying here! Our two bedroom self contained unit overlooked the pool and the most amazing unspoilt hillside and riverside scenery. The location is unbeatable. Monica is a fabulous hostess. A rare find - and very special place.

A wonderful stay at this secluded retreat.. our villa was perfect for our stay, very well equipped and beautifully decorated. We loved our breakfasts brought to us on the terrace and the beautiful outlook over the pool towards the river and mountains. Although it feels remote, you are 10 minutes drive from Vila Nova De Milfontes and its amazing selection of restaurants. Monica is a great host, friendly and personable and was very quick to respond to any queries, sending us lots of recommendations, guides and even booking our restaurants for us. We’d recommend the resort to anyone and would love to return for a longer trip to further explore the area. Obrigada!

Loved the peaceful, scenic grounds with some nice hiking / walking options down to the river with views and a picnic spot. Nice, well-appointed room and the breakfast was great. We also availed ourselves of a delicious and nicely arranged picnic basket that we requested. Monica was a gracious host.
