I honestly would need to rate this hotel on different scales. There are alot of different areas to review for this hotel. I am giving the Peabody the benefit of the doubt based on its historical significance and elegant atmosphere and rating it a 4 star. But in all other aspects it leans more to a 3 star. To begin with you lose all elegance and beauty of the gorgeous bar, seating, duck fountain and lobby area when you are greeted with hoards of people. Mostly from Viking cruise lines, the noise is loud when you actually want a more subdued noise level to relax and rejuvenate. This continued throughout our 3 night stay, there was never a time when you could enjoy the beauty of the hotel. Not to mention the people not staying at the hotel but coming to see the parade of ducks at 11 and 5, I get it but a ridiculous amount of people vying for seats to see this event, some coming over an hour beforehand. So unenjoyable. As far as the rooms, we had an issue. We had a connecting room of which one room was ready upon arrival and we were told the other room would be ready shortly. Well at 6:00pm still not ready, turns out they cleaned the carpet in the room and it was still wet???? Why was that done, hmmm. But then why did they wait to let us know that. After complaining, we were given the room next door, not connecting, ok not a problem. They did offer 1/2 off the first nights rate. The second room was laughably small, the bathroom was insane!!! The toilet literally was right in front of the tub, if you were over 5' tall you would never have been able to sit down and do your business!!! I think the smallest bathroom I have ever seen even a small child would have problems. It was an acrobatic event to use the bathroom. But the worst part was the soundproofing. You could hear every sound from the room next door, their conversations, etc. Then heard all the late night revelers coming in running down the hallway, talking insanely loud at 3:00am. Didn't make for a great nights sleep. Upon check out, I questioned if my room rate should be the same as the other room since it was much smaller and did not connect like we requested. I was told it was the same room rate, I do question that since there was a huge discrepancy in rooms, square feet wise, bathroom size, etc. And not cheap accommodations. The location was good though and the shopping in the hotel was good. All staff were friendly. Just need to address the above issues to keep this hotel as elegant as it should be.
