Travelodge Middlesbrough

Just returned from a four day , three night stop in Travelodge's. First night in Scarborough then the second in Middlesbrough then third night back to Scarborough before returning home. Scarborough certainly puts the "B" in basic but we struggle to find anything cheaper. As i have reviewed before , they are let down by old wooden sash windows held together by filler and paint and old rusty brackets. Soap dispensers are invariably inoperative, flooring slopes so that you feel drunk before you have that first pint, radiators heavy with rust etc etc . When we arrived this time staff on reception were grumpy but he thought we were trying to sign in for the room at 1.30? we weren't we just called in to leave our heavy bags in the back room until three o'clock. We asked if there was a sea view room for three and he said yes and it was ready for occupation now, how's that 11 out of 10 , a room with a great view but a little rough around the edges gratefully accepted. Next night onwards to Middlesbrough and a night in the Travelodge there. What a noticeable difference, but fair do it is a modern building. Couldn't fault the room or bathroom, staff were pleasant and the only thing that let it down if i were to be picky is the cheap toilet paper. Middlesbrough is a vibrant place , loads of shops and malls, restaurants , pubs and even a Wetherspoons at the end of the main drag called "The Swatters Carr" . At first sight it seemed a bit rough around the edges but the food was excellent and so were the drinks. We had breakfast in the bus station at a café named "Milligan's" and I'm afraid you get what you pay for, coffee excellent but bacon butty frozen cold and only just edible. Next day back to Scarborough Travelodge , lady on reception very pleasant gave us a room that we weren't happy with that we have stopped in before , room is slightly below the level of the stairs right at the side of the bed so hear people clattering up and down the stairs all hours. Lady at reception once again gave us another room no problem, 11 out of 10 for this young lady also. Had a good nights sleep, some noise outside and inside but took out my hearing aids and left the wife to suffer. For breakfast before returning home we usually go to "Cooplands" but we tried "Greggs" instead. Coffee nice , bread so hard we had to leave some of it and filler of bacon stone cold. Last time for this venue I'm afraid. I have left some pictures for Scarborough but not Middlesbrough as it was faultless. Make of them what you will but please remember that Scarborough St Nicholas is an old building and maybe planning wont let them replace the windows with plastic windows ?

Location brilliant, rooms clean but was a stain on the floor I could not recognise, also the fact no beer on draught a first in a hotel with a bar I’ve experienced, however Klaudia and Adele could not be more helpfull and pleasant staff really a credit to hotel.
