Sadly, our experience at Hotel Nantipa fell far below expectations. Upon our arrival, we were escorted to our two rooms (our kids stayed in the second room). Our room was nicely appointed but very dark (on the first floor), not very private and with windows overlooking a noisy and busy construction site (we had to keep the shades drawn to block the unsightly site and maintain some semblance of privacy). Our kids' room was like ours, but unfortunately without the benefit of a working air conditioner. We asked to change our room to something less dark and not adjacent to the construction site, but after a fair bit of attitude from the somewhat annoyed front desk staff, we were told we couldn't be accommodated. For our kids' room, we were told the air conditioning would be fixed, but after returning to a still sweltering room after dinner, we insisted on a room change and were mercifully accommodated. Unfortunately for all of us, the room check-in was mere prelude to a very disappointing (and thankfully cut short) stay. For a hotel advertised as a luxury beach resort, we found a number of things odd (to say the least). The forlorn pool area (think cheap apartment complex) had only a few mangy lounge chairs (many of which were left with used towels), a grassy area that was mostly dirt, no bar or even a water station, no sunscreen, and, most shockingly, no towels. Apparently, the hotel believes in a one beach towel per guest policy (which we brought with us from our room) -- we felt like we were kids back in summer camp. The beach area couldn't have been less inviting (or less like the apparently photoshopped photos of the hotel we had found online -- see attached). Those photos showed beautifully cushioned lounge chairs along the beachfront, but those chairs were somehow missing during our visit. Like the pool area, the beachside lounge chairs were old and tattered (and without any cushions). And the location of the hotel in front of the rockiest stretch of beach in Santa Teresa left much to be desired - one would expect such a high-end resort to choose a better location. The day after we arrived, we had planned a surfing lesson for my wife and son, but, in line with the rest of our experience, the lesson (arranged by the hotel) went horribly awry and was poorly conceived to start. The hotel planned the lesson for 11am, which the surf instructor told us was a terrible time to book, especially for beginner/intermediate surfers. We didn't have any time constraints and were mystified as to why the hotel would book that time. Not only that, the guy who drove my wife and son to the lesson vanished without a trace after promising to watch their belongings (they were fortunate nothing was stolen) and didn't return to pick everyone up for about an hour after the lesson ended. The surf instructor speculated that the driver took off after a girl and had no clue whether he'd ever return. He did finally return (with his surly girlfriend), but t
