The place is welcoming but a bit old. The hostel was very helpful for cleaning my clothes, helping organize shuttles, etc. Mattress and pillows were comfortable. Curtains that would block the sun would be a nice plus. I booked a twin room for myself. Worth it if you want to cook and do some cleaning.

Really groovy hostel! Brett is doing stellar work here with an amazing old building. Facilities are clean and tidy, bed was comfy, and the living areas are beautifully decorated and inviting. Will definitely be staying here again in the future.

Ducks & Drakes is a Great place to stay in the cottages, easy walk to town and Pukekura park. Lawn area with tables great way to meet the neighbour's. Hospitality by owners was awesome. Will definitely stay again.

Best backpackers we have ever stayed in. Place was clean and well maintained and the hosts super friendly. Comfy beds, good showers and well equipped kitchen. The location was perfect for easy walking to both the city and Brooklands/Pukekura. Will definitely be back again

Going here no one should expect luxury. It used to be a boy’s school dormitory … since the 1910’s!!! So considering the beating a place like that has endured its amazing the place is still standing. Lotsa’ traffic lots of use,by lotsa of guests from EVERY walk of life and it shows as there’s a bit of wear and tear here and there. But it’s clean and neat and full of hospitality. The proprietors are extremely kind and welcoming helpful and flexible. And the hostel puppies are sweet and endearing. You can’t expect style or luxe but you’ll come away with excellent memories and a warm heart. And quite probably new friends.

I enjoyed my stay at D and D. It is very near the CBD in a quite street with good parking on the road. The place has a large lounge, a sun/day room snd a large dining room...all are really tidy and comfortable. The kitchen area is well stocked with everything you need. My bed was very comfortable and my room looked out on the courtyard area. Brett pooked after me really well...bought my bags from my car to my room with a smile as I was on crutches. A vety good place to stay in New Plymouth.

A great base to explore Mt Egmont. Very comfortable bed and quiet surroundings. Cottage we stayed in was very good, clean, full range of facilities for self catering. Nice bathroom and shower. Had a TV but too tired to bother watching it! Staff very helpful, able to store luggage when away in a DOC hut for a night, and very friendly. Thanks for the stay.

We had an excellent two night stay in a nice, clean, comfortable self-contained one bedroom cottage. The hosts were extremely helpful and provided a warm friendly welcome on our arrival. The property had an excellent location within easy walking distance from Pukekura Park (Festival of Lights) and the Coastal Walkway. Highly recommended.
