Gateway Hotel & Suites, Ascend Hotel Collection

Stayed here during Oceans Calling, Thursday-Monday. What a gem! I was worried about staying at an affordable place so close to the festival thinking that it wouldnt be clean. This place was spotless, staff was so nice from the front desk to the housekeepers. We've already decided we will be returning next year.

This hotel was was great but the staff was truly friendly and exceptional. The lady who greeted us, was great! One of the gentlemen at the front desk gave us 3 suggestions for dinner and then went above and beyond. He printed out the menus for the 3 restaurants. The one we chose of his selection, was delicious with good portion sizes. They had a nice game room where we could watch football games on a bigger TV during inclement weather. We would highly recommend this hotel!

The hotel was very clean and smelled great! Our room was beautiful, and the view from our balcony was breathe taking!

As always the staff is excellent. The hotel was clean but the sheets and the furniture were old and chipped. The sheets are dingy and gray; even the duvet was torn on the edges. I have been coming here for a while but I am disappointed with the condition of the hotel.

Very nice room, the bed as a little to firm, but otherwise it was a nice room.

Pool was not cleaned and was quite cold for me and my wife, otherwise we enjoyed our stay. We did come for the pool.

The location was great. The water pressure in shower was good. Carol at the front desk was very nice and helpful. The pool was very small. The room felt and smelled damp. My clothes were damp when I unpacked them at home.

When we made our reservation, the room was listed as a partial ocean view with a balcony. Having access to a balcony was one of the selling points for the hotel, so we were very disappointed when we found the room was actually on the bay side with no water view and more importantly there was no balcony. The back door walked directly out to the pool. We shared our complaints to the staff and they said the hotel was fully booked and didn't offer any compensation. They kept saying to come back to talk to the manager the next day but there was never a manager on duty during our stay. The location of the hotel was ideal with easy access to the beach/boardwalk and walkable to many restaurants and other activities.

We love staying here, the hotel is clean and staff are friendly. Boardwalk is walkable and convenient. The downsides are the parking its tight, pool is kinda dirty, cafe is close (you need to look where to buy for breakfast) crossing on the other side is dangerous because theres no pedestrian.
