King's Cliff

Fabulous setting up on a hill about a 20 min walk down  to the town(definitely get a rickshaw back).  Didn’t realise we could order eggs  for breakfast until our second morning (not offered them  on the first morning). Cake at breakfast was yummy. Bathroom hadn’t been cleaned  on arrival  and there were splatters marks on the wall  above the tea/coffee area. We also returned to our room late afternoon to find maintenance working on our balcony - did feel this could have been done after checkout! Fabulous shower. We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was very good. The high taxes in Tamil Nadu added to the price (almost 25%) so bear this in mind . Cocktails weee excellent. We did the morning ’hike’  which was well worth getting up for.  We were brought a hot water bottle on our second night which was a lovely surprise.  Tea & biscuits served between 5 & 5.30pm which was a nice touch  although more of the breakfast cake would have been good. Would recommend staying here as rooms, location  & restaurant are excellent.

Firstly, I was given a room in an extension block that seemed to have been built recently. It was modern but lacked the charm and character of a true heritage property. The main building, with its fireplace and historic ambience, was nowhere to be found. This was especially disappointing considering the premium price I paid, comparable to what you'd expect from a 5-star hotel. The lack of attention to detail continued throughout my stay. When I checked in on a rainy day, I had to walk to the extension block without an umbrella despite the muddy road. The staff seemed unbothered by this inconvenience. Additionally, the room didn't have slippers, and the floor was cold, with no heating available (although they did provide a basic room heater when requested). To make matters worse, I had to call the front desk to confirm my room for the second day, which should have been done automatically as part of their standard procedure. This lack of efficiency only added to my frustration. The toiletries were also woefully inadequate, with only basic soap and shampoo provided. Power cuts were frequent, and I had to notify the front desk each time, which seemed like a hassle the hotel should have anticipated. The breakfast buffet was uninspiring and lacked flavour. To make matters worse, I had dinner at their restaurant, which was rated top in Ooty, but my experience was average at best. To add insult to injury, they got our order wrong, substituting Nasi Goreng (fried rice) with Mee Goreng (fried noodles). When I brought this to their attention, they made no effort to compensate for the mistake. In conclusion, Hotel King's Cliff fails to live up to its reputation as a heritage property or even a 2-star hotel. The overpricing and lack of attention to detail make it a poor choice for travellers seeking a comfortable and enjoyable stay in Ooty.

Beautiful experience, well maintained property. Awesome food and trekking was a memorable one! By far the best in Ooty.

Kings Cliff was a truly pleasant experience. The setting is beautiful...wrapped in greenery, mist, and an old-world charm that quietly stays with you. The restaurant too deserves a special mention for its atmosphere and warmth. A peaceful stay, beautiful views, and moments that felt unhurried.

Wonderful place, well maintained colonial cottage. Excellent location, chill weather, surrounded by beautiful flowers and vine. Delicious food. A complete package.

Truly had a memorable holiday and a lovely stay. It almost ticks all the right boxes. Location and upkeep of the hotel premises 10/10. Rooms you have the heritage ones in the main building and contemporary spread over the property. I am a fan of the latter and am glad had a room to match. Breakfast was lovely though repetitive, could probably have some variance, though having said that they had a live counter for alternate palates. It’s absolute value for money until the à la carte which one thought was overpriced for the servings provided, they could look into the portions served. Another would be to having fans in all rooms, concede weather there is outstanding throughout though some people cannot handle stillness and little air circulation helps, so that’s one thing they need to look into. Staff is extremely courteous and reactive to addressing issues. Would truly recommend and were one to visit again wouldn’t hesitate on selecting this property.

Set above Ooty with views of the town and the Nilgiris from beautiful gardens, this heritage hotel is in a class of its own,with Operation manager Bala, and his assistant Sanjay, and other staff members always ready to attend to requests. After the heat of the coastal areas, fresh mornings and evenings were refreshing, and when temperatures dropped, log fires and hot water bottles were welcomed. Our room was large and comfortable, with a balcony to sit and enjoy the view and a spacious bathroom with a powerful rain shower. A large choice of international and local dishes in the restaurant made choice difficult though overall, local dishes were more authentic. Kings Cliff Hotel is a great place to explore the Nilgiris from. Note - ask for taxi driver Arun!

Although the location and the gardens are very nice we were very disappointed by our room. It was very small and had the bed right against the wall making it difficult to get into and out of bed. There was no A/C and neither was there a ceiling fan. The staff were not especially welcoming and the restaurant prices were rather high. The hotel is in need of some basic maintenance . Our experience was not a good one.

Kings cliff is a perfect getaway surrounded by lawns, trees and orchards. I had my inhibitions as I was travelling solo, but they faded away as I reached the property and interacted with the staff. And the buffet breakfast was great, especially the chicken sausages.
