Bed was comfortable and the location is great .Aprox 10 mins walk to centre and 4 mins walk to train station .The parking is free an onsite . Andy the host was great and nothing was too much trouble.The Gluten Free and Lactose free cooked breakfast was fantastic.

Excellent service and friendly helpful staff. Excellent location, right next to the train station, plenty of free parking. Hotel was clean and warm despite it being freezing. Our room didn’t have an en suite and had to access our private bathroom across the corridor. Room was cosy, a little old fashion in decor but added to the charm. I would definitely return and recommend.

Always a warm welcome and great service. The rooms are cosy, clean and comfortable. It's our go to place when we visit our son at Oxford University. Very close to the town centre but located in an area by the Thames with an outdoor area to sit and watch the world go by that is quiet enough to forget you are in a city. The hotel is based in a house built by Thomas Kingerlee who was a master builder and mayor and looking for the buildings he built in Oxford as you walk around is interesting, so the hotel has lots of history associated with it. Breakfast is always great and is made to order. Parking is free and you can even leave the car in the car park on your day of checkout so you can get lunch or some last minute shopping before going home. Thank you for a great stay again and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Great location just on the edge of Town. 10- 15mins walk to get the centre of Oxford. Nice location by the River about 15-20mins to get to Folly Bridge. Check in was easy, very friendly staff. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice. Room was small but we were barely in there. Very clean. Got given a map at check in with recommendations where to walk and visit. Honesty bar, help yourselves and then pay on check out, was very well stocked. Didn’t really make use of it though. Considering it’s a 2 star it offered everything we needed. Would recommend and stay here if visiting Oxford again.

The River turned out to be just what we needed when visiting the city to see a concert. The location was great as you don’t need a car to get around Oxford, so you can use their free car park and walk ten minutes to the actual city centre. The large building has a lot of character and the breakfast room was delightful, with windows looking out towards the river. There was a good cooked breakfast plus we could have chosen cold items, cereals etc. The bedroom was older style yet was very comfortable with modern conveniences. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I wouldn’t hesitate to book the River Hotel again if I return to Oxford. Because of the lack of a lift and the steps to the front and rear of the hotel, it wouldn’t be suitable for people with serious mobility issues, but for others I would highly recommend staying there.

Location was great! Right by the Train Station! Oxford is not huge, so walking to the city centre is easy. FANTASTIC BREAKFAST! That British Cooked Breakfast in the morning was lovely! They did it the way I loved, fast, friendly service. Tasty and lovely ambience - the dining room has a great view of the river! Staff friendly and helpful. Room was CLEAN. Bed was comfy. Bathroom clean and great water pressure! 10 minute walk to the middle of the university. Beautiful exterior - quaint!

Despite the room being a bit tired and dated (especially the bathroom) the bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts were superb, and the staff very friendly and delightful. However, we were originally booked in a double room on the top floor (by the staff) but when the proprietor noticed I had a walking stick, offered us a room on the first floor, but it was the family room and we had to pay extra. I would really have struggled so had to accept. I feel to charge us the extra fees wasn’t really necessary for just another bed in the room, and to be honest, wasn’t very happy about it. Parking was great and convenient for the city. We would stay there again as long as I could stay on the first floor!

We chose this hotel for a weekend as it was close to the city which is compact anyway. Having it's own parking was another reason we chose this hotel. We had the top floor which was quiet but disturbed frequently by the landing light coming on during the night and lighting the room up through the gap under the door. Apart from that the room was fine. Breakfast was very good although we didn't have the excellent looking cooked food but there was plenty of fresh cut melon, cereals, muesli and toast. We used the hop on hop off buses and visited the Bodleian Library and Botanical Gardens. A very pleasant and warm. sunny weekend.

Very quaint cosy hotel by the river, walkable to everywhere , right across Oxford train station , amazing , cosy, clean room , perfect English breakfast, a gem in Oxford . Love it!!
