Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino

A hotel that is run masterfully, the location, the amazing staff run by a passionate manager, the quality of the food and service, the attention to detail and comfort in the rooms all make for a unique experience. We went in December 2023 and it was enjoyable to discover and experience Portofino in the Winter season, no crowds, a good temperature for walking and of course the hotel experience.

Even in winter, is definitely a magic location, the christmas atmosphere in Portofino is simply amazing! My room had a fantastic sea view, facing direct to Portofino bay, the housekeeping was spotless, thank you very much to Lilly and Federica! Concerning the restaurant, the dinner at Dav was a lifetime experience, the service was espectacular, the guys they really go further the expectations, everything was delicious, the paccheri definitely a must!! Special thanks for the great evening to all the staff in particular to Walter the Waiter, Walter the somellier, Umberto, Simone, the Maitre Fabio and the Hostess Chiara!!! you really rock guys! Brekfast was one of the best I ever had in a luxury hotel, and the team was also super there! Fantastc drink also at the bar! The welcome was also so warm at the reception, NIcola, Chiara, Pablo and the Gm Michela, are so energic and positive. Many congrats to everybody guys, keep it up! Looking forward to come back

Attention to detail in every aspect of our stay. The lovely staff were wonderful. Couldn’t do enough to help. Genuinely lovely hotel and staff. Loved every second of our stay. I arrived with a very painful back and the beautiful staff had organised a doctor to visit. Even went and had my script filled for me. Our room was beautiful and our balcony view was stunning. Beds were like clouds. We really didn’t want to leave. Can’t rate this hotel highly enough.

Highest quality of service delivered with a smile. Rooms are luxurious and the dining is very special on the terrace at the DavMare restaurant. We can't wait to be back at the Splendido Mare again in the future.

The positioning of the hotel is simply magnificent: right on the harbour, dead centre. We were in the Ava Gardner suite (Room 15), on the top floor, which comes with a beautiful roof terrace that makes you gasp as you walk out onto it and see Portofino harbour laid out in front of you Luxury comes as standard here: I’ve noticed that the truly luxury hotels of the world don’t have star ratings, as they are beyond 4 & 5 stars: Splendido Mare is in that category. There are only 15 rooms, so the service is fantastic. All staff were polite and friendly and very helpful with any request, no matter how small. The Dav Mare restaurant is simply wonderful (in my opinion the best in the town by far). The rabbit ravioli was so good I had it twice. Service hits that perfect sweet spot: attentive without being intrusive. Nothing as annoying as a waiter who keeps checking “Is everything alright for you?” Multiple times during the meal… none of that here! It was my partner’s birthday during the trip and the hotel put a free bottle of (good) champagne in the room and there was complimentary champagne at breakfast too. The great service even extended to the housekeeping/cleaning staff, who were all so seemingly happy and friendly I thought they were fellow guests on the first day (their uniforms are very attractive and non-uniform-y)! We also got a free 1-hr boat trip with the room and this is where the first of 2 criticisms comes: it rained during the trip and because the boat is uncovered, we got drenched…so much so it was almost funny. We arrived back to the harbour looking like we had been swimming in our clothes. Maybe a covered boat for rainy days? Also the roof terrace doesn’t completely belong to Room 15, Most of it does, but there’s a ***** divided off by a screen.bush that comes off Room 14 and you are definitely aware of the presence of other people the other side of it, which makes you feel a little self-conscious. Apart from those 2 minor gripes, it was a fabulous trip and the hotel was a major part of that. I will remember the absolute top-notch service for a long time. 👏👏👏👏👏

We stayed for 3 nights and it was one of the nicest hotel experiences we have ever had. From the check in to the room, food, pool and beach club. We will definitely be back at the Belmond soon! Thank you!

There is a small hotel that is in the port of Portofino (it’s sister property offers a shuttle and is situated up on the hill and offers shuttle service) the rooms were very comfortable and the staff is hardworking and kind. We had three meals at their restaurants that were absolutely outstanding!

We took a two-week trip through Italy, and Portofino was the highlight. We had a wonderful stay at the Splendido Mare. The service was amazing, as we've come to expect in Belmond properties, and the suite was very well appointed. Two important things to know: The Splendido (up on a hill) and Splendido Mare (on the harbor) are 2 different hotels, with a shuttle available between them. Mare is a very small, boutique hotel in a great location (middle of the village) but fewer amenities. Splendido is larger, has a beautiful pool and more restaurants. Also, neither hotel is on the beach, but they provide a shuttle to the beach club. It is very nice, with beach chairs & umbrella, changing rooms and showers available for no extra cost. Would definitely come back.
