We enjoyed our spotless, reasonably-priced, updated room with friendly and helpful staff at the welcome desk in this gem of an old-fashioned hotel in a very good location in Old Town. For those who prefer the cobblestone streets and lively, noisy ambience of this neighbourhood, with terrific little restaurants like Macareno's, La Ruta, Rico Coffee (best coffee in Old Town, imo) and too many others to list, plus funky bars like Salty Caesar's, Villa Del Mar would be a great choice. There are suites with kitchenettes for long term stays but they are highly prized and difficult to get, we were told by a reliable resident source. Our standard room has a firm but comfy bed, nice pillows, a balcony with trees growing up to the second floor so all sorts of birds land on the branches an arms' length away, and a wonderful big shower, modern toilet and a big sink and vanity separate from the shower and toilet room. A brand new dresser and clothes hanger were installed while we were here with upgrades ongoing it seems. All good. There is a sweet set of rooftop decks, two for the true sun lizards at the top and a huge one running the length of the building with flowers and plants, chaises lounges, picnic table and other amenities so that people can take a break from day trips and the busy world outside. For those of us who need to connect for work and/or family reasons there are 3 internet boosters so there is very good to excellent internet connection too. Best of all, hardworking, friendly maids and front desk staff who are so genuinely helpful and welcoming to us. We don't know if we'll be able to return to PV but if so, we'd come back here in a flash. The only thing I would add to give it 5/5 would be a small but deep dip pool...
