After a long time without a holiday, we were enveloped by the peace and grace of the Kingfisher Resort and Spa on Vancouver Island. We had a second floor partial ocean and full garden view room in a wing that has been completely updated. A very good size with a king bed, lovely ceramic panelled bathroom with a no barrier, heated floors, large shower (no tub) and a good size balcony with comfortable chairs and small table. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, the flat-screen TV was large and on the wall with access to Amazon TV and other apps. Lighting in the room is thoughtful and well done. Floors are blessedly free of the often worn out, musty carpet in many other resorts/hotels. Kingfisher opted for easy care laminate in the room and heated tile in the bathroom. There is air conditioning which can be adjusted, it was a little noisy at times. The small fridge in the room was handy, but could have been set a bit colder. The spa is well appointed, quiet with a great selection of divine treatments. The changerooms, pool and hot tub and deck were quite well appointed and clean. The Spa shop had a nice selection of upscale products as well as some clothing incl. swimsuits. The gardens in the centre of the resort wings are calming, well tended and had individual spots scattered throughout with a gas firebowl, comfortable chairs and small side table. The calming sound of the babbling brook water feature, some small waterfalls and quiet spa music piped inobtrusively throughout the gardens and spa further relaxes guests. We loved these spots to relax and reconnect. The Bistro and fine dining restaurant are both great with very good menus and seating with partial ocean views. There is an outdoor dining patio for the bistro. Service throughout the resort is excellent. The front desk and spa desk are accommodating and pleasant to deal with. The resorts' in house cat can be seen lounging around the gardens and reception building. There is quite a good fitness room, if a bit out of the way on the same level as the Ocean Suites. The beach is large, not sand, but smooth rock. Walkable but challenging if you have mobility issues. Could do with proper stairs down to the beach. Do not be fooled by the somewhat rustic car park near the road entrance, all the charm is on the inside! Will definitely be back! Thank you Kingfisher for a memorable stay.

We stayed two nights to visit the area. Room had waterfront view with large glass windows. Peacefull and really enjoyed our stay. Nice bar and restaurant. Did not use the spa facilities or exersize room. Easy parking. Very comfortable beds and Pillows. Would stay here again.

We stayed at the King Fisher for 5 nights. The location is quiet and the grounds are very nice. We booked a beachfront Suite (Eagle) which was well appointed and clean. What was disappointing was that there was a designated smoking area directly in front of our unit. So if you’re sitting on your patio you had no privacy, and sometimes you could smell the smoke wafting up depending on the wind. Seemed a strange place to put a smoking area. We also did the Spa Cave experience, which was nice and unique, but felt rushed as you could only spend 10 minutes in each cave. It was part of a package, so we didn’t pay full price for it, but I don’t think I would spend the $200+ that it normally costs to do it. The lounge area when you arrive had dirty white leather seats, and the relaxation lounge upon exit was filled with outdoor deck chairs that looked very overused and worn, definitely not a spa like feel. We chose not to use it. Aqua 7 Bistro – Nice setting on the patio, however the food choices were not what I would call casual, more fine dining options for what you would expect for a bistro. Not a lot of healthy or allergy friendly choices that you might expect at a spa resort. The happy hour only gave you a choice of red or white wine, and not the wines on the menu, cheaper wines that were in my opinion not great. Ocean 7 – We ate here on our last night. We tried to book for 6pm, but told it was full. We got there for our 7pm reservation and were offered to sit outside on the patio (bistro) and could have the same menu as the Restaurant, so why we couldn’t come at 6pm was a mystery as the restaurant only had two other tables occupied. The food was just ok. I honestly think they should just make the whole place one restaurant and have both casual and fine dining options on the menu. Trying to be two different things in the same spot and everyone is casually dressed anyway.

Beautiful views, and a good spa. Food was reasonable. However, the beachfront suite we booked was significanlty below the standard we expected. The beachfront units are arranged in a tightly packed, motel-style, stacked row. Our suite had no side windows and no rear-facing windows. The main bedroom had no external windows at all - only a door leading directly into a narrow bathroom at the back, and frosted internal double-doors opening into a small living area at the front. The double-doors felt flimsy, with visible gaps underneath and the bedroom felt claustrophobic and somewhat oppressive when the doors were shut. From a sound privacy perspective, the suite was not suitable for two adults if one is using the Murphy bed. It is realistically only appropriate for a family with a child. A disagreement with management on charging for a second room, left a somewhat unpleasant taste in the mouth. A pity, because there were some positives.

The rooms were awesome, pool was great. The only complaint I had was we did the hydropath. When entering the cave and turned on the 4 water showers, we all started to cough and our eyes were burning. We got out of the cave, but it’s still all underground. A few of us went back in and tried it again and found the same thing. We brought it up to a worker and she right away went to maintenance. There was a chlorine leak. We were given extra time in other pools, to make up for not being able to go in the caves. When we left we expressed our concerns of the chlorine leak and we were offered 15%off the price! Nope not good enough. After talking with a manager, we didn’t have to pay for the hydropath. We had burning eyes and were coughing for the rest of the evening. I really do hope that they reported that leak to the health authority. It really should have been shut down, but as we left there were people checking in for their hydropath. It’s all under ground, so it’s not like the chlorine just disappears..

The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The staff were quite pleasant. However, our stay started off with a disappointment. The main reason we were going because of the spa. When we arrived, we found out the booking that I had email confirmation for was not in the system. They said there was nothing they could do because it was booked through the call center. They did offer an opening they had the following day early in the morning. That didn’t work for us. Our room wasn’t ready yet, but we were able to get robes in a locker in the spa to use the pool. Unfortunately, every single around the pool deck was taken so there was nowhere to sit. Another disappointment. When we did get into our room, we were very happy with the set up and the cleanliness. When it came time to go to bed, we realized the walls were paper thin and we got to listen to a screaming baby for an entire hour, as well as people above us that sounded like they were walking around with their shoes on stomping and slamming doors. We were looking for a peaceful night sleep, but the whole experience was very disappointing. I would not book there again.

An unbelievable 5-star experience! The Kingfisher is a true gem in Courtenay. The Hydropath is a transformative healing experience that everyone should try at least once—it’s therapeutic and incredibly relaxing. The restaurants are world-class, perfect for a romantic dinner with a stunning view. It was the perfect getaway for my partner, my family, and myself. Five stars all the way!

The resort is perched on the shore with expansive views of the ocean and sky. The garden is well kept with a wide variety of native plants and flowers, with plentiful fire pits to cut the chill. The pool and hot tub are welcome diversion. The accommodations are top notch. The rooms are modern, with lovely linens. The restaurant has a nice menu with fresh, locally sourced dishes. The staff are friendly and attentive. The location is nestled in a quiet bay on the east side, with easy access to hiking, and near towns. We saw bald eagles soaring and seals playing in the bay. We easily relaxed and recharged in this charming setting.

My wife and I stayed at KR from February 22–24 for their midweek spa special, and overall we had a fantastic experience. Our oceanfront room was beautiful. Watching the tide roll dramatically in and out was mesmerizing, and we saw seals, eagles, herons, and many other birds. Morning walks along the shore were a highlight. The food was exceptional. We had both lunch and dinner at the resort and each meal was outstanding. The resort is compact and easy to navigate. The gym is functional, and the spa experience was excellent. My massage with Julie B. was among the best I’ve had, and the healing caves were a unique and relaxing experience. We would gladly do both again. The property is beautifully lit at night, very peaceful, and the beds were comfortable. The room was spotless, and the shower had phenomenal water pressure — truly one of the best hotel showers I’ve experienced in years. A couple of opportunities for improvement: The hot tub could be hotter, and the jets were quite weak. It’s a small detail, but enhancing this would elevate the spa experience even further. More importantly, adding on-site EV charging would significantly improve convenience for guests. We had to drive into town to use a slower charger, and the nearest supercharger is about an hour away in Nanaimo. As more guests travel by EV, having charging available at the resort would be a meaningful upgrade and would align beautifully with the property’s forward-thinking, wellness-oriented feel. Overall, we would absolutely return and look forward to seeing how the resort continues to evolve.

Restaurant and spa are incredible, hotel is seriously meh 🫤, no way yo watch a movie but call themselves “sophisticated” lol basic cable? Are we stuck in the 90’s or what? In addition, if you are an early riser, there is NOWHERE to get a cup of coffee or food before 8am so definitely not a place to stay on a business trip where you have to leave before 8am but personally had to lock myself in the bathroom for 3 hours so as not to wake my friends/family, like seriously? No overnight staff either, not even a cup of coffee in the lobby and front desk staff in the morning could not have cared less when I asked at 730 am where to get a cup of coffee other than the room (which is garbage coffee anyways). Overall I will continue to eat at the restaurant and book into the spa, but would be the last time I stay at the hotel itself.

I couldn't believe how bad the hydro path has gone downhill. We came as a group of 4 and 1 of the 4 massage showers was broken so one of us had to stand there while we rotated through, the river path jets basically weren't working (I've done it before so I have a comparison) and at the end 1 of the 4 baths didn't even come close to filling up for the mineral scrub and the attendant was no where to be found. We also did the new caves as well which were actually pretty good. The disappointing part is that after waiting for over 20min just to pay as there was only one person at the desk on the phone, we were sweating profusely from doing a bunch hot spa stuff, when she asked how it was we let her know all the shortcomings and the response was "sorry to hear that, how would you like to pay" we spent over $1,000 as a group for a pretty sub-par experience. Not very encouraging to come back again to what is supposed to be a pretty high class resort

Stunning hotel by the ocean minutes away from Courtenay. Our orca suite was spacious, smelled fresh and clean, and offered an amazing view of the water. The robes were waiting for us to go out and enjoy the spa amenities (hot tub, pool, steam room and dry sauna), which we really enjoyed. We went around 6-7pm both nights and had the place almost all to ourselves. Unfortunately, the healing caves were fully booked due to the promo that was ongoing in mid-January, so make sure to book in advance if you are after a specific treatment. The outside space with the zen garden and fireplaces was charming, definitely a good spot to go read a book when the weather allows. We loved the menu at the restaurant and went both nights, the bartenders Alexis and Alex were great and we had a good time chatting with them all night. As a french speaker, I found it funny to see that “pommes” (apples) was used a lot on the menu, when it probably should’ve said “pommes de terre” (potatoes). Or maybe it’s an artistic choice! Either way, none of our plates had fried or puréed apples in them ;) We would definitely come back and stay again when in the area, this was a memorable couple nights, even with the fog covering the property for most of our stay! All of the staff we interacted with were helpful and nice, special thanks to Jacob who fetched a crib board for us and Nala the cat who accepted our company.

We had an incredible experience at Kingfisher Pacific Spa & Resort, especially the private dinner in one of their Sky Domes. From start to finish, everything felt thoughtful, relaxed, and very well executed. The standout was the tasting menu that chef Danai Hongwanishkul prepared for me and my friend. Each course was beautifully done, full of flavour, and clearly designed with intention. Having a menu created specifically for the dome made the evening feel genuinely special. Dining in the Sky Dome added a unique element to the experience. It was comfortable, quiet, and offered amazing views of the garden lights, and a safe warm space to enjoy the evening rain, creating a setting that felt both private and memorable. The service throughout the evening was attentive and friendly, with great timing and no pressure. Overall, it was a unique and incredibly well-curated dining experience that went beyond expectations. Highly recommend for anyone looking to do something a little different and very well done.

I found most staff at the resort friendly with exception of one older female employee behind the front desk. She wasn't rude or anything but definitely didn't look happy when she had to answer a question I had on our last day. The room was clean and stocked with complimentary coffee and tea, but no stir sticks for the coffee which would have helped. There is an outdoor pool and hot tub along with a sauna and steam room guests could use. The hot tub was a waste of time because the water was no where near as hot as it should have been and the jets weren't working properly. There were a few very weak jets which produced a few little bubbles on a couple and the rest didn't work at all so that was a disappointment. The pool, sauna and steam room worked were good. We chatted with a couple other guests at the pool and they advised that the hot tub has not worked properly for some time and the resort knows it. If that is the case they should get it repaired if they advertise it as an option. The best part of the stay were the spa treatments we booked. Everyone at the spa was so friendly and helpful. We tried the hydropath spa and the healing caves and I would highly recommend both to anyone. Overall the price for the standard room is a tad high, the facilities were decent but not fully functional and the spa was amazing. Next time I think I'll stay elsewhere and just book the spa.
