Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy the Drayton Apartments Historic District

We got bumped from our flight and tried to go back to our previous hotel, The Perry Lane Hotel, for the night but it was booked so we moved to this property. It was HORRIFIC. First, we couldn't even find the building, it's the tiny door to the far left of the building next to the Starbucks that has no signage. Then I had to download an app to get my access instructions which I didn't know about when I booked, all while standing on the street with all our luggage. Then there's no elevator so we had to lug all our stuff up two flights of stairs. Once we got in the room it was cute, small living room, kitchen area, bathroom was fine. But on the bedside tables they had ear plugs so I knew we were in for a night... It is SO LOUD. It's on a busy street, lots of bars from what I can tell, yelling into the wee hours of the morning, and then I awoke to what I thought was a mariachi band blasting away from inside the apartment only to realize it was just a car driving by. The windows are paper thin. To make matters worse, the ceiling was just exposed rafters so the walls don't go all the way up. A light was on ALL NIGHT LONG. We searched and hunted for a light switch to turn it off and after 30 min of hitting every switch, looking on every wall, opening every door, cupboard, etc we finally went to bed... in the light, listening to the calming sounds of people outside the window. The living room shades are also not blackout so if you have someone sleeping on the couch, don't. It was truly awful.

On the plus side, this was in a great location (walkable to most everything downtown). We've stayed at several Sonders now and this was the worst :/. Street sound kept us up both nights. The sound machines provided were both broken, and the space was generally shabby/dusty/stained.

The entire experience with this stay was terrible. We ended up, leaving after only one night of a two night stay because the road noise and people carrying on on the street was so loud we could not sleep most of the night. The earplugs on the nightstand should’ve been a dead giveaway to run! It was also very difficult to even figure out how to access the property. The address led us three blocks away from the actual building. Parking was confusing and we ended up having to lug our luggage down the street to get in the building. There was no pull off or any reasonable way to unload before going to find parking. There was no one anywhere to help us figure out the problems. Not that it’s that big a deal but the television would come on, but the remote would not control anything. It was in the living room and there was no TV in the bedroom. I’m in town one or two nights a week and this was easily my worst experience at any property I’ve stayed at.

I loved the apartment itself - well laid out and stocked. Bed was super comfortable and the shower was dreamy. Only slight drawback is that the insulation between apartments is flimsy and we could hear our neighbours' talking and tv. Of course, it's right downtown which was really convenient, and yes, there's a lot of street noise but that didn't deter our sleeping well, although the earplugs provided were a thoughtful touch. We really loved the added bonus of having somewhere to store our luggage until check in.

Beautiful apartment. I was able to request early check in. Paid Parking is across the street and its $10 a day. Less then a minute away. Came here with my family of 4 and our mini poodle. Great location in The North Historic District. Always felt safe and to access the building a PIN is needed. We stayed over the fall break, alot of restaurant within walking distance, and starbucks right underneath the apartment. We took advantage of cooking in the kitchen and using the laundry unit in the apartment. The walls are thin, so you might hear, the church bells, and your neighbors a bit . But, it's was still a amazing stay.

This one bedroom apt was awesome. Right above Starbucks, keyless entry for both outside door and apt door. Much bigger place than it looks in the photos. LOTS of closet space. BIG bathroom. Washer & dryer. Ice already made in the freezer for us. Will definitely go back!
