Lovely little pub with lovely staff. We went there with family for Sunday lunch but were a bit disappointed with the food. My son had the steak and ale pie which had plenty of meat inside but he said it was quite bland with a thin gravy inside. I had the half and half Sunday lunch which was tasty but the pork was very tough and the Yorkshire puddings were rock hard. I should have asked for some more gravy to soften them up a bit. The only other very minor problem which could not really be helped was that the dining room was very open and as it was very busy it was very noisy. All in all good portion size for the meal, the staff were very good and I would return.

Great little find. The pub was warm and cosy, the food and the staff were great and the landlady especially was good.. We were 4 friends that stayed in the bungalow at the back of the pub which was snug but fine. What was good was the room we were originally having was above the main part of the pub and they rang to say there was a Christmas do doing on both nights so would we prefer to be in the bungalow. They also enquired did we want to book a table because it was getting booked up. Pleased we said we would eat there in the evening and the breakfast was just as good.

This Country Pub is a perfect place for a weekend getaway either with your partner or with friends and family.The rooms as they say are basic but have everything you need,they are quiet and clean,what more could you want.The staff are the nicest people I have encountered in any hotel I have been to,they could not do any more for you.A special shout-out for Sam he went above and beyond in everything he did and is a very well mannered and polite young man. The food is really really nice from the burgers to the steaks and then the breakfast it is delicious and a must have if you are staying here.The bar has everything you could want including real ales on draught,the BlackSheep was good. Malton is 4 miles down the road (we drove) but you can get a bus outside the hotel ( Number 843).We went to York races from here in the car and it was 21 miles which took us around 40 minutes as the road has a lot of farm traffic on it. We will be returning and are already looking forward to it.

We have a site in this neck of the woods and when on site nearly always stay in Scarborough, we’ve been used g the same hotel for years. However, if travelling up late this would mean passing the site to come back the following day , which is annoying so it makes more sense to stay on the West side of the site. I’d seen this pub a few tImes in passing a thought I’d give it a go. I was very pleasantly surprised, first off I’ll list the good points. Excellent food, friendly accommodating staff, great beers, a pack lunch available for the next day (see below on bad points for this also), comfortable bed, usual teac, coffee etc ….. Right now to the bad points, I only had up until 9:00pm to check in, that put me in a pickle re travel and food, which I as only served on a Sunday till 7:00pm, which was a bit restrictive for us. Also breakfast wasn’t served until 8:00am, which was when I was offered the pack lunch, which BTW was a very nice club sandwich, fruit, crisps, chocolate bar and a muffin. So pretty dam good tbh. All in all a great place to stay and eat, just those couple of things that make it a bit awkward to keep using it time after time for me, I do expect however I’ll give it another go 👍🏼

Fab food , great company , good menu value for money Stopped in in the way home From Whitby and had baked potatoe jacket with cheese and bacon and a side salad Very nice !! Served hot ! My husband had the steak pie and cleaned it up Well done I will def be back

We and my husband went for Sunday lunch today. It was really lovely,plenty of vegetables, gravy,meat only down side is that the Yorkshire puddings are not home made,you can tell they are the frozen ones. Service was amazing the staff here are lovely.
